I believe more people will have an opinion on this one...

I have not been a Jazz player, but am looking ofrward to my restoration being completed.

Unfortunately the original p/u's are gone, having been replaced with emg's in the late 1990's.

What is my best option? Reissues? Lindy's? I will probably look around for vintage originals, but want to start somewhere so I can play it when the woodwork is done.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

rjnich,

IF money is no object, go for the originals! Could be a big IF! O/W, Fender & a whole host of other companies make some great replacements. I'm fond of Seymours. They make a few different 'vintage' type pickups.

Fender's Custom Shop offerings are very good too. I have them in my '64 CS Bass.

Lindy Fralins all the way! :p

Anyway I'm sure you know your 3rd party PUs. The only way I know of to tell original electronics is from the pot codes.

You can use the guitar dater project to decode them too.

Since you are doing a restore, I'm sure you want original equipment.
But if you are going to keep the bass and play it I suggest putting in Fender's Vintage noiseless pickups http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... 0992102000

They are a bit less "edgy" in sound, meaning they are slightly less in the high end response but the sound IS Jazz Bass, and with WAY less hum and buzz.
