I bought a new Jazz.

It was under £230 new.

It has a maple body, maple neck, maple fretboard and black block inlays (inlaid or painted on? Not sure. Who really cares?)

It looks fabulous and plays well out of the box.

Most importantly it sounds better than my MIJ Geddy Lee and MIM Classic '70s Jazzes. A real Jazz "growl" with cutting mid-range.

It has Duncan Designed (eg Seymour Duncan design but Korean built) pickups that sound FAB.

It has a very easy to play neck, with a satin finish that seems to make it quicker.

It will be my main bass going forward.

Confession.... it's a SQUIER!! http://www.squierguitars.com/products/s ... 0326702521

Can I ever be forgiven?

Nothing wrong with it, my VM sounds good, but not better than my '87 tho.

Nothing to be forgiven. Squiers are excellent basses.
Oh, BTW, the markers are indeed real inlays. Confirmed by Jeff Krause at Fender consumer relations.

Nothing wrong with that at all, mine is great, I played a six different ones before I bought mine. It's a great instrument.

As long as it makes you happy, that's all that matters.

Thanks guys for the thumbs ups!

I read a GREAT quote on another forum, which kind of sums up my feelings on playing a Squier: "Instrument logos are for those who listen with their eyes!"

Also, thanks Bathead for the info re block inlays. What a great bass!

I own a 2004 Fender Highway One Jazz bass and a 2004 Squier Affinity Jazz bass, and they do compare pretty well. The Fender has a richer tone, and the overall finish is nicer, but the basic tone of the Squier is a true J-Bass tone. Considering I paid $75 for the Squier, it was a good deal.

In your case, it would've been blasphemy not to have bought it.

Seventy-five bucks is a helluva deal in anybody's book!

Rock on!

Even at full price, a Squier is a helluva bargain.
