How's the Geddy Drjohn? you fine tuned it yet?

It's getting close. I'm a little picky. The shop offered an initial set-up. I may actually take it to see what they do differently than I do, and if I don't like it, put it back to where I want it. :)

I played it for the past couple of nights until I literally fell asleep. I have even been able to get an almost identical sound as my 66 out of it. (through a Crate combo amp actually). I tested it through a Hartke set up with 8 - 10s at the store, and liked the range I could get with it. Keep in mind that I have never played a bass with a lot of gadget controls, so this is perfect for me.

So far, I love this bass. The color scheme even has a certain cool factor for me.

I changed my MySpace default pic to one of me holding it. I'll try to post a pic later today.

Okay, my periodic testimonial.

I seem to have the fine tuning of the action set for me now. I'm pretty convinced that this bass will play itself if I'm not around.

Still in love with it.

Exactly how I felt when I had mine.

I have a Geddy Lee(albeit moded with active EMGs, still have the stock p/u pots etc though) and it plays great and sounds great in its orig passive form. Also, I have several MIA J basses with the s1 switch. The Geddy is a great sounding bass with a slightly thinner neck than a typical J bass and the bindiing and blocks look good. The only con I would say is more from an appreciation/"investment" standpoint which you may or may not care about since the American Standard J basses if kept in stock/orig condition will appreciate more(not a lot mind you, probably just a little bit more than the inflation rate) vs the Geddy. The craftsmanship out of Japan in my opinion is just as good as the US made basses and personally I think the consistency out of Japan is better than the US made basses. I've seen US made and even Custom Shop guitars/basses with horrible fret work, bad neck pockets, etc... I own 3 other MIJ and 10 US made Fenders and the quality is just as good and at times better than the US made basses esp w/regard to fret work. I also have a made in Japan Sadowsky Metro and this so far has got to be the best sounding/quality/workmanship etc... bass I have owned--right out of the box she was good to go.

Either way, you can't go wrong with buying either bass and if money is a concern, the Geddy is about $2-300 cheaper at retail.

I have to agree with Fendered, I've had MIA basses, and my MIJ has the best fretwork from anyone of the MIA's I've had. I've tooled around with the Geddy @ the music store, it's an awesome bass. If you get the Geddy now, it's also $50 more - @ web stores - but at your local stores you can still hagle the price.

I bought a Geddy a few months ago. I played the MIA jazz but I wasn't fond of the S-1 switch so I opted for the GL. Now the '08s have done away with the S-1 switch. Oh well, I'm happy with my Geddy. I don't think you can go wrong with either one you choose.

I am very proud to say that my main bass for the past 10 years has been the Fender Geddy Lee Jazz Bass--I got one of the first ones when it was introduced in 1998. That being said, I have played and owned a few Jazzes, including American Standards, Deluxes, FMTs, and Mexican(4 and 5 string). Along with the Geddy, I alson own an Aerodyne J- Bass.
