I think it all depends on what a person prefer, I would get it for the BadAss II standard, but you can get HWY 1 with BadAss II also - and it's an MIA. That can be the con on the Geddy Lee model, it's not an MIA, it's CIJ. I'd go with either, both good basses, although the American can be very pricey. I know you're not comparing it to the HWY1, it's my preference to have the Leo Quan's bridges as you can see on my sig.

I just played a Lee bass in the store. It's a great bass, especially at its price point.

There's no con with the Geddy, it's a great bass, also CIJ Basses are the same standard as MIA in my opinion, I have a 90's and a 2004 MIA Jazz I also have a JB62-85 FL CIJ, it's a very well made Jazz bass.

The best thing to do is buy direct from Japan if you go for a CIJ and get the US models with US pick ups, alder body, the hard ware on the premium models is as good as MIA.

Just my opinion guys :D

Say what you want, I for one don't really care if it's CIJ, MIJ, MIM, or MIA, due to the fact my MIJ is as good as the MIA of it's time. Some people find it if it's not MIA it's a lower quality Fender. I don't as my post had said earlier.

I've been a dedicated Rickenbacker owner and player for over 20 years. I recall feeling "jilted" when Geddy first starting publicly showing his enthusiasm for the Fender Jazz bass back in the early 80's. When Fender introduced the "Geddy Lee signature" model, I decided to get one. Now I feel guilty every time I walk by my Rick to pick up the Jazz!

The neck is thin enough to enable your fingers to literally fly around the fretboard, while thick enough to give you something to hang onto. I find there's an wide and very distinct range of tone you can achieve, simply based on where you pluck or bang the strings (I don't use a pick). Move your right hand close the neck, and you envoke a really deep sound. Move your right hand closer to the bridge and it sounds like a different instrument. The "twang" that this bass produces when the strings are tapped aggressively conjurs up thoughts of the Rickenbacker, but there's a warmness that is sometimes missing with the Rick.

Corny as it sounds, the Geddy Lee Fender Jazz bass has literally inspired me to play more, and for longer chunks of time. I sometimes find I can't put it down! My advice: Go for it!

:D

I really enjoyed my Geddy too, it's a great bass with a great snarling tone.

well the geddy has a really thin neck but the truss rod is really hard to get to. the American jazz is more about quality. the geddy is about replicating the artist specs. dipends on if you want the sound of geddy, or the reg, jazz sound

Yes true enough, it does have the Geddy sound, although I will say the Geddy is good quality, very well made, I think the Geddy basses are as good as the American. I will agree with you on the neck dimension of a Geddy you do have the ultra slim neck which I find comfortable, but my preference would be the American or JB62-85 FL neck both have the classic Jazz feel to me.

I agree that the sound is a little different. I played my new bass until I fell asleep last night, and my 66 Jazz definitely has a warmer sound. Some of it may be the age of the wood as well.

So far, I'm pleased with the bass, and haven't even fine tuned it yet.
