Long scale is what I use. I have also used extra long scale in a pinch and just trimmed them but I prefer the long.

+1 on the GHS Precison flats. Super smooth, great punchy vintage tone.

GHS 45-105 # M3050 for me on my three Fenders, but I have used the Ernie Ball long scale 50-105 # 2804 in a pinch on my Ibanez GSR200. The Ernie Ball stringset is not quite as 'flat' as the GHS, but they work well.

Fender does offer flatwound strings, but only for 4-string basses. We hope to see 5- and 6-string Fender flatwound sets soon!

Which model? The newer 2010 with the binding and the blocks or the good ol' "downsized" ones with the 22-fret necks and the abalone dots?

I tried those on my VM Jazz, I wasn't impressed. I found the GHS P flats had a noticably much smoother feeling with a nice round tone.

I tried d'addarios on my fretless and left them on for a whole 15 minutes. Whichever string you do choose I would try to get them in a taper wound on the E & B, as I think they sound better. I would be interested in knowing if anyone has experience with the Lakland brand as I've heard good things about them. I currently use DR rounds on mine and I love them and yes, they do eat the neck a little.
