Hey all, I'm new to the forums. A little about me, I've been a guitar player for the past 15 or so years but recently (within the past year) became interested in bass. I did some research and ended up choosing the Geddy Lee bass. While I love this bass, I wish it had a little more low end along the lines of a P bass. I was reading about the S-1 switching and how it can change the pups to series and in turn gives a sound closer to a P bass. I was wondering if the stock pickups in the GL could be wired this way and it would be as easy as installing the physical switch? Or would it be best to get a whole new set of pups? Thank you for any info.

this is the site you want

They do they're version of the S1 system and more besides. They're well priced and done by hand with good components. All you need to do is solder the new pre-wired control plate assemebly (ie the pots and what not) to you existing PUs

Hope that helps and I'm jealous, I love the Geddy bass :D

I do know what you mean about the Geddy, though.
It's a snarly beast indeed - would benefit from the S1 treatment....

Personaly, I don't think the Geddy Lee Bass needs anything, because it's a great sounding instrument as it is already, and doubt any type of switch or preamp for that matter would make it sound any better, however I maybe wrong

It would ruin the Geddy sound, but would make the instrument more versitile.

Then if that is the case, what would make a person want a bad sounding bass that has versatility. :?:

Sound is subjective. I have a Geddy Lee modified with EMG active pick ups and sounds great. I still have the stock GL pick ups and pots. If you want to add the s1 switch go for it. You can do this by the link the other guy sent or if you scrounge around on ebay every so often someone is selling a complete s1 J bass control plate, knobs, pots etc... If you're not real handy, have a qualified guitar tech do the installation e.g. solder job really.
