Hi All

I have a 72 jazz bass (http://gallery.me.com/glocke12#100154) I need to sell fairly quickly.

I dont want to take it to ebay because of past issues of fraud I have had there. Does anyone have any suggestions of alternate sites?

Thanks

If you live in a big city I would try word of mouth. Ebay should be able to handle a transaction securely if you specify your terms adequately. I would avoid selling it to a music store or pawn shop as you will not get more than 60% of the true value of the bass. You might consider barter, too, if it applies to your situation.

It is usually BUYERS who get defrauded on eBay and not sellers. But I suppose it has happened.

I'd definitely sell it on eBay. The ONLY payment method I'd accept is a US POSTAL SERVICE MONEY ORDER. Cash the money order, then ship the instrument. Done.

I've sold and bought a number of bass via their classified section. Never any issues. I've even sold basses in as little as 15 minutes of posting! You need to become a Supporting Membership, which is $20 a year. BUT WELL worth it!

It is by far the best Bass Only Forum on the internet.

Rockbassist,

Pics should show up in this link.

http://gallery.me.com/glocke12#100154

I am asking $2300.00 shipped, fedex priority overnight (i only ship instruments overnight).

The bass has a drop D tuner, and EMG pups, but I have the original tuner and the original pups. Otherwise the only part of the bass that does not appear to be original is one of the pots, it is a dimarzio.

I also have a fender case, but it has seen much better days..

email me at s2alembic@gmail.com if you want to chat about this further.

Sorry, not trying to be rude, but if it's not all original it's worth less than half of what you are asking. I have seen early 70's Jazz basses selling for $1,800 to $2,500. Good luck

Hey what ever dude...but:

A) Anyone is welcome to make an offer.

B) I put my personal email in the post for a reason....if you didnt like my price you could have either not said anything, or emailed me privately, like anymore normal person does who understands what the word "tactfull" means.

C) This price is based on the highest price I found on ebay for an early 70's jazz. I figured I would start high for bargaining room...like I said, people are free to make an offer....

Furthermore, I had an offer 4 months ago for $1900.00....but wasnt ready to sell at that time....

If you read my post you would see that it states that I was not trying to be rude. I was simply stating an opinion based on what I have seen for sale in stores and online. You obviously have a problem with that. The basses you have seen selling for the price range you mentioned have been in original condition. Most people who are looking at vintage basses do not wnat drop D tuners on them. Once you start removing factory parts the value decreases substantially unless you find the right buyer. Good luck.

My problem is that it is poor etiquette to go onto someones post and start criticizing them about their price point. Not only is it disrespectful, but it turns away anyone who may be interested in purchasing the instrument. There is a right way to do something like that, and that would have been emailing me and telling me I might be off in my price.

Also, obviously you missed the part in my post about me having the original parts, as evidenced here.

http://gallery.me.com/glocke12#100415

These can be easily restored to the bass.

Also, how can you possibly tell me that my bass is worth less than half of what I am asking, when this POS was sold for $1800.00

One could argue that it's even worse etiquette to come on a Fender forum, asking how to sell your bass quickly, and then to complain about a post that directly addresses the single most important factor related to what would make your bass sell quickly. Note that all of your posts on this forum have been in this single thread. On a public forum, you will get many incarnations of information if you ask for information, and you need to weed through them to see what might be most useful to you.

What turned me away from your offering was your price, not anyone's response to it. Haggling from distant poles is never going to get you anywhere. Personally, I think your bass might be "worth" somewhat more than half what you've asked, but it's far moe complicated than that.

Post early '65 (or so), the quality of these intruments went into a roller-coaster ride. Despite the mods you mention, we'd like to know about the relief in the neck, how the neck fits into the neck pocket (tight or with room?), is there fret buzz, where are the truss rods set and is there room to adjust in either direction?

Truth is, any bass, with the exception of the most rare variants or dates, aren't really worth much to true collectors unless they are in stock, as left the factory state (wear is fine, to a point; original is key).

So, you're looking for someone who likes basses, may be looking for a less than common player, but not someone who's going to pay a premium.

Take whatever info you get and make a sale that leaves both seller and buyer feeling like they did OK. That's the only way to sell a bass like this, and typically, the only way to make any sale. Especially quickly.

Now git 'er done.
