Can someone at Fender please comment on the absence of body wood description on the new spec layouts? A spot check of the models on the website indicates that the body wood used is no longer a standard feature of the specs.

I wonder if Fender did this to make it easier to change body woods without being obvious? If so, I think that is unfair and deceptive. The type of body wood used on a bass is one of the first things I look at when reviewing model specs.

I do see where the body wood is mentioned sometimes in the description but not always in the specs, so what gives, Fender?

Don't Fender use alder on all basses, except for the ash models? Plus they can specify all they want, any changes can happen without updating us anyway. IDK, it's mass produce, so we won't get too much custom unless you go Custom Shop or Carvin.

edit for: except for the Aerodyne Jazz - basswood I think...anyone?

I just got my new 60s Jazz Bass this weekend and came here to see if anyone knew what the body was made of. I was quite surpirsed to see this post asking the same thing. So I guess we don't know?

I think that if your bass has any kind of translucent finish or sunburst, it's probably ash. Solid colors would most likely be alder. This is not a hard and fast rule as many of the deluxe models had basswood bodies with maple or ash veneer tops. A good clue would be that if the front of the bass is translucent and the sides and back are solid color, that you're probably dealing with a basswood/agathis body with a veneer top. You should be able to tell just by picking up the bass as basswood is very light compared to ash and alder.

Or you could just ask before you buy the bass ;)
