All I'm gonna say is go to a store and try out a bunch of basses by a bunch of different manufacturers and then make your choice. We could tell you how the new Jazz bass has this but not that which this jazz does and so on forever, but quite frankly only you know what guitar(s) is(are) right for you!

Amp wise, same story. I hope you find your dream bass.

You can't go wrong with a Fender bass in any price point. The tone is the standard of the industry.

The amplifier will depend more on the situation it is used for.

If you are set on a Fender bass, I would go with an MIM active deluxe bass because they sound pretty good for the money, and because of the active pickups you can achieve just about any tone you want. As far as the amp, I guess it depends on what you are going to do with it. If you are just going to be playing at home, the Bassman 100 is great, and the Rumble series will serve it's purpose too. The only thing to consider is if you are going to be playing a 5-string, stay away from amps that only have a single 10" speaker because the low lows will sound muddy.

If money isn't an issue, I would definitely get an American made bass!

well, i would say fender, i have a rumble 60 for practice and it is great sounds awesome but is heavy at like 55 lbs way too much for me to carry, and if you want a performance amp, i would recommend the fender bassman 250 combo. my 60 watts is really loud in my bedroom
