This might seem like a simple question, but can someone please tell me how much the alder american standard jazz weigh? I can't find it listed anywhere on the net, and I went to my local dealer yesterday to try one *surprise* they had gone out of business.

Which one? :D

Seriously, there is a pretty wide variation in weight from one instrument to another, which I would guess is why you can't find a weight listed for this model anywhere on the net.... there are just too many different weights produced, even on a given day.

Has anybody here weighed their Jazz? Maybe you can come up with an average by asking several owners.

Specifically, I'm looking for the 2007 American series jazz bass, alder, four string, rosewood fretted neck, S-1 switching (not the deluxe or vintage, just the plain old American jazz). I know my maple '97 weighs 8.5 lbs, and I keep reading the new series is lightweight, I just want a ballpark as to how light that is.

When I said "Whihc one?" I didn't mean, whihc model?" I meant, "Whihc spefici instrument?"

There is no standard weight for any given model of Jazz Bass, and that's why you can't find that number published anywhere. If you already own a Jazz Bass that weighs 8.5 pounds, then a current production bass i going to weigh either a bit more than, a bit less than or the same as that.

What I'm telling you is that if you walk into a Guitar Center right now and pull down five identical basses, they will all weigh in differently.

I don't want to know the weight right down to the ounce, I just want to know how lightweight is lightweight supposed to be. Is that around five pounds? Seven? Ernie Ball lists a weight, how hard is it for someone to produce one for Fender? Like I said before, it's a simple question. Don't respond if you don't have an answer.

It is alder, but i did put a badass on it and weighed it with my strap (but how much can a strap weight????) so that's what my scale said. i thought my bass was pretty heavy to start with.

I have an answer. I gave you the answer. It's not my problem if you won't listen.

There is no standard weight for any solid body instrument made of a material as variable as wood... not even down to the pound, let alone down to the ounce. And Ernie Ball can say anything they like on their website, but whatever number they tell you will be wrong 90% of the time (even a broken clock is right twice a day).

Had to clean up a double post, so I'll use this opportunity to tell you the number you want to hear:

An American Jazz Bass will weigh somewhere between 7 and 11 pounds, unless it weighs slightly more or slightly less.
