Hi - I have an enigma to resolve!
I recently acquired a pre-owned Fender Jazz Bass which has strange features:

1. The body has never been drilled for a pickguard.
2. It is a completely raw finish to the body (ie no varnish or nitro).
3. It has a bridge earthing strip inlay.
4. Its a 4 bolt fixing
5. IT HAS A METAL DISC ABOUT 10MM ACROSS EMBEDDED IN THE BACK THAT IS ENGRAVED "GENUINE FENDER BODY"(and the Fender F Logo).

Its currently attached to a 1985 date MIJ '75 reissue maple neck with MOP inlays. I doubt it originally started life like this.

Anyone come across this disc before? Could it be a warranty replacement body? Anyone? Any ideas? Its driving me mad.

Could be an aftermarket body (like a Warmoth or similar) licensed by Fender. The fact that it has no finish makes me think that as well.
