I haven't played a MIM Jazz but the ones I have seen look pretty good.
I've also heard good things about the Squire Vintage Jazz but I haven't seen or played one.

Do you think the MIM Jazz would be able to cut it gigging on a regular basis?

Well ive had my HW-one for a few days now, and have done 1 gig with it.

So far ive had a few issues with it, including choking notes right up at the 17-19th frets but i expect these are just one offs (i'd like to think so anyway) but overall i like it and dont really regret saving £400 over the MIA ;-)

It plays well, sounds ok and is pretty light. It probably just me but i feel that the neck is a bit more comfortable to play than the MIA i had. I know the MIA has rolled edges but the HW seems to feel smoother to me. Then again the MIA was Maple so maybe thats it.

Ive had a HW-one P in the past and i echo the other posters who said you can get a shiny patch where you rest your forearm. I also had a HW1 jazz and the finish did actually fall of in a couple of areas after a very short time. But thats just the paint, you don't get bare wood showing through as there is a varnish underneath.

For the price i think the HW-one is good value if your just looking for a workhorse bass. I treat mine well but do expect it to get a few dings etc over time and im happier that its not an expensive bass, as i would worry more.
Ive not had a MIM before (other than a 70s classic for a few hours) but i cant see why one fo those wouldnt be just as good, plus you get more colour and neck options.

For the cost of a HW or MIM you will get a very good, playable bass, you just have to find one that calls out to you.

I like my HW1 Jazz bass. It does play well. I wish they offered it in fretless, or a maple board. These are the only things that didn't appeal to me, but I can live with it otherwise. Once I fixed the fret buzz on the 3-4 frets on the A string it really does feel fast.

Has anyone changed the pups in their HW-one Jazz?
I took the control plate off last night and noticed a third wire from each pup.
According to the Fender website this is from a grounding plate. Ive not seen this before (nor the grease buckets wiring).
Ive not taken the pups out yet but am i right in thinking i can still just go ahead and replace the pups with out have to do anything with the grounding plate.?

The Chromes feels really nice on the HW, they make it very easy to play. Im going to take them off soon as i do prefer the tone i get from rounds but for now, im really enjoying this bass.
I still hanker after a 3TSB/maple im happy that the HW will serve me well for a long time.

I agree, nothing wrong with the pups at all.
Its more that i have a set of Wizards in ym CV Jazz that i really like so would love to try them in my HW-one.

My current HW-one is Black.

As was my HW-one P

My first was a HW1 that i upgraded the bridge to a BAII myself.

Ive been messing about with the setup since i got ti but i think i have finally found the ideal one. Certainly, the bass feels different to how it arrived. Partly the stings i guess as the XL's feel a bit looser than the Fenders.
I never spent too long setting up the MIA's but the HW-one does feel a bit nicer to play.
I still cant get rid of the choking at the top but i really dont think i should be playing up there anyway ;-)
