Hey all - a pleasure to follow the postings on this board as I've learned a lot.

So, a few questions about my MiM J-bass:

1. Serial number on my bass is six digits, not the typical five digits ("MN2+ 5 DIGITS") that Fender mentions on their support page to date instruments.
Anyone know why mine is longer (not bragging here!)?

2. Am considering replacing the pickups.
Some of the Seymour Duncan (STK-J and SJB-1 specifically) look like a good option.
Anyone have other suggestions?

3. does anyone else like to run their bass through a flanger or is that just a weird thing I enjoy doing?
For that matter - any pedal suggestions I should try?

Background my my bass & playing style:
A Fender rep told me that the body of my 1992 bass is made from Poplar.
The neck is Rosewood.
Bought it new in 1992 (or '93).
Pretty much play finger style, close to the neck pickup and use it for classic rock/country/blues tunes.

Thanks!

Most J replacement pickups won't fit in the bridge position. You need to specify to your salesperson your bass is MIM.

I put an SJB-1 in the bridge of my MIM a few years ago no problem. SJB-2 in the neck position. They sound really nice, especially after I defretted it.

i would recommend and suggest you try to look around for more aftermarket pickups.. I believe there are good ones.. well they are based on various jazz basses, they sound different but the thing is.. shop wisely and look for the sound that you like

i would suggest
Fender Custom Shop '60s
Seymour Duncan Antiquity II
Aguilar AG 4j-60
Nordstrand NJ4
Lindy Fralins
Lollar
