I have an '08 Am. Std. Jazz that I hardly ever play anymore because I prefer the necks on my 2010 MIA and 2001 MIM P-Basses. I need to have a bass tuned down to Eb and I'm debating about either selling the Jazz and getting another Precision, or buying a MIA Fender P neck from one of the online "chop shops" and installing it on my Jazz. If I went this route, I could even re-use my tuners.

My thinking is, the Jazz would sound better tuned down 1/2 step than a Precision. Since it was the first brand-new instrument I ever bought, this way I'd still have a reason to keep it around.

I'd probably keep my original neck so would there be anything wrong in doing this? I mean, it wouldn't hurt the value of the instrument as long as I keep all the original parts. Any suggestions???

I agree with eyecandy, keep it stock. A stock American Std. is probably going to be worth more to sell. Switch necks with a less expensive model.

You all did read the part about me keeping the original neck???

My point is, should I keep this bass(& the only way I would play it regularly is if I get another neck) or sell it and get another Precision?

You might want to research the neck pocket on this before buying an additional neck. I also have an '08 with five tuners on top, and I'm not positive the pocket is identical with later models.

You could always sell it on eBay. I bought mine and am always looking for a companion/spare parts bass from the same year.

Never sell an American Fender. Keep the Jazz with the original neck. Just get used to it. You have "bass fever" at the moment it seems...which leads to later regrets.
