So I play an 02 Fender Jazz Active Deluxe. It's amazing but lately it's been acting weird. When the battery is full and I'm trying to use the neck pickup it doesn't work. All the sound cuts out At 50.01% but when the battery is dead it works fine but since it's active it doesn't sound as good. I just don't want to get ripped off when I take it in.

Anyone know why this happens. Is it a loose wire or bad pickup?

Thanks!

Welcome.

If you're stating the pickup works without the preamp, evidently, you can rule out the pickup. As to it being a loose wire within the preamp, I doubt it too as the preamp consistently works up to a certain point. Deductively, one of the preamp's components is fouled. I would lean towards a loose terminal from the pot to the PC board first and if not, something as simple as foreign matter in the pot or the pot itself being worn out as the culprit. Beyond this, it would be something within the chip and because most musical instrument ICs are proprietary, Fender would be your sole source for a replacement. If this be the case, that chip would take a very long time to come in as Fender is not going to place an order to Taiwan for a solitary replacement chip (if in fact, that particular one is still made). Good luck but I think the odds are with the pot somehow as I've stated above as being the source of your malady.
