Hi guys, I've always loved the vintage series RI 75 Jazz bass necks, the look , the feel, logo style...another of my favorites has been the Deluxe active J's as well....
So I noticed recently that (appearance wise) Fender has come up with what looks like my dream bass. The deluxe J with active/passive electronics married to a vintage RE-ISSUE 75 J Bass neck.
My question is, Does anyone know if the "feel" of the necks is the same? (meaning the 75 vintage series re-issue necks Vs the New deluxe series necks)
The deluxe necks look just like the big block 75 Re-Issue necks but are they similar specs? I love the small tight feel of the 75 RI's...did Fender match that with their new Deluxe series?
All the dealers I've contacted say they won't have any in stock until mid July....anyways thanks for reading and giving me any input you may have.

This may not be the answer to your question, but I really am trying to be helpful here. You should evaluate any instrument based on how that particular instrument plays, and not get caught up in the notion that all instruments of a particular model will be exactly the same. Even if they were made of carbon fiber by robots, you will have variance, even more so with something made by humans out of wood.

For myself, I don't share the love for vintage electric instruments that many have. As another poster to this forum put so well, "Why would you pay today's dollars for yesterday's technology?" I have two basses, one is ten years old and the other is over 30. There is no way in hell I would take the vintage feel/sound over the newer bass.

Seriously, if I was hell bent on the vintage look, I would get a new bass and have somebody trash it for me. At least the neck will be straight, the electronics will work and replacement parts easy to find.

The necks are some kind of variable radius (They call it something else I think) I have a 5 string 2010 Deluxe and its lovely. I have very small hands and its still nice IMO.

I also have the new 2010 jazz bass. This neck is fantastic! I have been playing on the Roscoe Beck V for the past 10 years (also a great bass). RBV has a wider neck. For me, the new J is easier to move around on.

The new deluxe jazz necks had tuxedo styling but lacked off the infamous "CBS"-era bullet truss-rod/micro-tilt/3-bolt system.

Instead, you'll get the additional bonus of 21 frets, which are not enough for my taste (I'm a die-hard 22-fretter) plus an asymmetrical 5-bolt neck design with posiflex graphite neck support rods for extra stability.

I should be receiving my American Deluxe Jazz in the next week, so I'll update you on how it feels! There's a rumor going round that Fender hit the nail on the head with this model.
