Not only does it not fit Fender's serial scheme, it doesn't fit for Mexican Squiers either. Could be export maybe. I don't know. MZ9 would be a Made in Mexico 2009 but the "S" I don't know about unless it is for a special run or something. Has me curious to know though. More photos of the entire instrument would possibly help. Good luck! Maybe someone else has info on this? B.C. Bassman or Chromeface?

Forgot to welcome you to the forum, Sorry and WELCOME PUEBLO!

I suggest contacting Fender Consumer relations with the serial number and ask them what the extra "S" means. They can probably explain it. Again could be the extra letter denotes an export instrument. Serial number formats for export out of North America are sometimes different for warranty purposes since the warranty coverage is not exactly the same for North American and export instruments. Other than the differing serial format and warranty, the instruments are no different from instruments shipped to dealers in North America. I've seen different serial formats on instruments intended for export that one way or another (often via eBay sales) find their way to the US. Here is Consumer Relations contact info. You can just email them and they should get back to you shortly.

The photos in the link you posted show what appears to be a Fender 60's Road Worn Jazz with a mint pickguard installed and the original pickguard included. The only thing that I see other than the serial in the photos that is bothersome is on the back of the instrument the paint seems a little thick at the relic "Road Worn" points on the part of the lower part of the body toward the end pin. These finishes should be very thin. This paint looks a tad thick at lower relic points on the back of the instrument. That really is nothing major and otherwise looks genuine. You can compare the one you are considering to actual photos of a known genuine one: http://www.sweetwater.com/guitargallery/bass/all/sMX10057905/

Gosh I love Fiesta Red! My son has a Fiesta Red USA Fender Special Run Strat with matching headstock. Gorgeous!

If anyone does figure of the serial discrepancy, or if Consumer Relations gives a concrete answer, please post the answer on this thread as I am curious. Thanks!
