I have an 98 mim jazz midnight wine rosewood fretboard all original equipment and my question is this: I just purchased a new set of fender 60's noiseless pickups to change out with mine and came across a problem and wondered if anyone else had this happen. I had this bass a long time and decided to upgrade a little bit like my newer mia jass. When I got my new pickups (#0992102000) I found that my mim jass has actually two neck pickups or same length pickups and new set has regular length neck pu and longer bridge pickup so to continue the project already started I had to increase body cavity size to accomadate the longer bridge pu length. It was a little time consuming but worked and sound upgrade was outstanding, wow. I just wondered if anyone else had this problem now my next upgrade will be an aftermarket bridge like badass II bridge if I can find one. I also want to find a new or used neck with maple fretboard as mine is rosewood and in great shape but was wanting maple!! I really like feel of geddy lee neck but dont know if it would fit and where would you go to get a replacement fender neck as I was down to this final change. Yes even trading in old neck to get one at fender or shop. Also wondering if you could get serial number decal if you bought a neck from fender anyone has any suggestions let me know like I said I have a great mia jazz but have had mim 98 for a long time an it means alot to me so just upgrading it for fun and keeping forever!!!!

Thanks Guys,
Johnny Bob

Others on the forum have posted that they had the same pickup length issue with some (not all) MIM Jazz Basses.

I think it might have been some older MIM JBs but you might want to search around some.

I have had good results using Gotoh 201 bridges as an upgrade. I also use Fender TBX tone controls and 500K volume pots on my passive basses (with hum-canceling J-J pickups or P-J pickups).

Here's your Geddy Lee neck......

A qualified luthier will have no problem fitting it to your MIM body.

Here you see the rosewood version fitted to a MIM Std Jazz Bass......

It plays, looks, and sounds great!
