I would suggest checking out the Lakland site as they have sound clips of their basses with rounds and flats. Most likely the string brand used is Lakland's own, but at least you'll get an idea of the difference in sound.

Personally, I can think of no good reason to use flatwounds unless you are just a noisy player. I put a set on my fretless recently thinking that I'd be doing the fingerboard a favor in the long run, but the sound was so dead and mid-rangy that I took them off after 1 hour (seriously) and had my bass neck treated with superglue instead.

Stick to roundwounds...

I've got DR Flats on my defretted jazz and they're great. They feel a whole lot better than the strings I had on before and I actually noticed an increase in volume with them. Sadly I haven't done any new recording yet.

i know, i have d addarios on my Jazz so I know how flats would sound, and DR and D'addario's sounds close, the GHS Precision are thumpy more like a cheaper alternative to LaBellas, I'm just curious how TIs would sound with J's, I've heard some recordings and Pino Palladino uses TI's on his P-Bass
