Hello!

I have a Fender Jazz bass from 1968.
1996 the neck was broken I got help to buy a new one, which would also be from 1968. The old one took the insurance company
A few days ago, was the first time I had dismantled the neck from the body since I bought it. Then I see that the date stamp is missing.
I contacted the shop where I bought the base 14 years ago. He said that Fender sometimes forgot to date some necks. Is this true?
Is there any way to find out if my neck is from 1968 or late 60's?

To bad I was only 22 years old in 1996 so I did not know that you should check the date stamp in the neck :( I guess i trusted the shop.

Sry for my bad english....im from Sweden

Here is a link with pictures of the base / neck

If a shop installed a replacement neck in later years it would very likely NOT have been a vintage NOS 68 neck. You would have paid through the nose for that and would certainly have been told it was NOS (New Old Stock)

The only thing that I can tell you is that the neck looks period correct for a 1968 Jazz bass.
The date stamps were sometimes worn off, if a neck was not mounted on a bass.
Your neck could be from any year between 1968 and 1975, when Fender changed the Jazz bass to a three bolt neck and bullet truss rod.

At a certain point, you have to realize that the neck is what it is and if you can't verify its age, just play it and enjoy the bass for what it is. I would still call that bass a 1968 with that neck in place. It is a beautiful bass.
have fun playing it.
