They don't make 'kits', per se. If your looking for the cheapest way to obtain a Fender instrument, consider the Mexican made ones or even cheaper, the Squier line.

For only a few dollars more than $1500 I got a brand new 2009 American Standard Jazz bass and a brand new Ampeg BA115 combo amp last year. About a little less than $1200 for the bass, and about $380 for the amp. :D

First I have a great amp (bassman) but never mind

why do you think the am. Standard is better then the hwy 1,because it is more expensive... So I can tell you that I try them and the hwy 1 just fitt to my hands , the nitro finish and the badass II bridge just felt great (they didn't tell me the price and I thought that the hwy 1 was more expensive...)

I'm confused. :?

In the opening post, you are looking for a "lower cost kit".

Then you say you "still wanted the quality."

Then you have $1500 to spend,

But you have an amp already.

And you have a Highway One Jazz bass.

So what are you looking for?

Gotcha.

Maybe take a look at the Squier Vintage Modified and Classic Vibe series. Both of those lines of basses new are under $350, and if your father doesn't like holding down the bottom, they make a great back-up bass.

Amp-wise, take a look at the new GK MB series of combo amps, if you can find them. Priced from $400 to $700, and they weigh under 40 pounds. If your father doesn't take to it, you will have a fine, lightweight practice/jam with friends/small gig amp.

ebay. Know what you're shopping for, what you're getting, how to bid, and be careful.

I got an American Deluxe 5 Jazz including SK8 case for $500. Yes, I was lucky and maybe you will be as well.
