Hey Guys, my first post. Just bought a Geddy Lee Jazz Bass. This thing is the best bass i've felt in years. Sounds just as big as the man himself, fits all of my playing needs;

BUT!

I'm a light touch player, thus i love a very low action which demands, at least in my climate (Montreal, Canada), almost weekly truss rod adjustments. In this day and age, can anybody tell me why the neck has to be removed to do such an adjustment? I used to have a Music Man and that part at least was soooo easy to do. It was done in a second.

I guess my question is, since i really love everything about this bass and I want to keep playing forever, is there a modification that can be done to it to make the truss rod adjustment readily available and easy without removing strings and unscrewing the neck? Has anyone figured it out, or am I missing a point somewhere?

This is not a complaint in the least, its just that the only way I would replace this bass would be because this particular problem would be addressed on the next run of basses.

A lot of modern J basses have the truss rod adjustment at the headstock or have a niche cut into the body where the heel of the neck meets the body allowing you to access the bolt w/o having to remove the neck. I presume the Geddy Lee doesn't have this because his bass was an old 70's model.

I guess you could have a luthier cut a niche in the body for you (or you could do it with a dremel, not recommended :p).

I found the following at the Talkbass website: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/archive/i ... 11192.html

"All you need to do is to cut the pickguard to get access to the truss rod. The neck is thin as heck so you need to adjust it all the time.. which is unfortunate and very inconvenient. I love the sound of the Geddy so I put up with it, and I'm afraid to ruin the proprietary pickguard by doing it myself..

The pickguardian people have a Geddy template and will make it with the access hole cut, but they're 50$..."
