My favorite bassist who influenced me in oh so many ways---John Paul Jones.
My favorite bassist in the Heavy Metal sector who influences my metal scene would be Steve Harris.

Both Fender Users...

I would have to say Geddy Lee but that's because I've listen to Rush all my life. I'm sure if I listened to other bass players I'd have more. x.x; I'm probably just going to look up people others posted. It's always nice to hear other peoples opinions. :D

Too many greats but here are a few:

John Paul Jones (Led Zep)
James Jamerson (Motown)
Geddy Lee (Rush)
Jaco (Weather Report, Solo)
John Lodge (Moody Blues)
Carol Kay (Studio)
John Deacon (Queen)

I know some of you are saying where'd you get all of these old guys? These old guys are some of the best people to ever pick up a bass guitar. Listen and steal as much as you possibly can. Then try and figure out why they played what they played. Your respect will grow greatly.

I wish Paul McCartney had played a Fender so I could include him on the list. He was one of my biggest influences.

Glad to see so many John Paul Jones fans. I've admired his playing for years but never heard many other people mention him.

Does anyone know what kind of bass Kenny Gradney of Little Feat played? I learned a lot from listening to him.

Seriously? My favourite McCartney Beatle bass tone is on songs he recorded with a Fender Jazz.
