It's a little on the heavy side, although not as bad as some old Peavey combos, when you compare the power and other features. It does have a good sound to it, though.

That MDF board is somewhat the kiss of death on weight for a moveable cab, or combo.

Yeah, it does add the weight, I guess because of it's density. I wonder if that also contributes to it's tonality, as well? It does have some low end to it.

Paul, that's the $@!&* of the MDF. It can, and does have good resonance to it. It started out being used in stereo system cabs. Not in larger amp speaker cabs. Water can turn MDF to mush in no time. God help you if you strip a screw in MDF.

Yeah, that's the thing with it. Water isn't it's friend, that's for sure. You'll probably wind up with something that resembles shredded wheat that's been soaking in milk for too long. I guess it just has to do with it's composition. It's essentially made from some sort of molded material. It's not like wood that's shaved down, or even plywood, which is sandwiched together with sheets of wood.

From what I know, or think I know of MDF, it's a kind of almost oatmeal consistency poured into a molding, and pressed under extreme pressures. It's almost like a shredded car-gated fiberglass.

When did that stuff first come out, the 60's?

I'm not quite sure.

I went ahead and looked it up. It looks like large scale production of it began in the 1980's. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium-density_fibreboard

I thought there was some sort of similar material back in the 60's or at least going into the 70's?

Maybe on a small scale for home stereo speaker enclosures. If it wasn't MDF, it was some type of a pressed wood chip used before MDF.

I remember that. Those old speakers with the faux wood grain finish.

Yep, that was them. It was ok for stereo cabinets.

True. It's not like they were meant to go touring or anything like that.

Yeah, nowhere even close to anything outside of the house.

I have technically gigged with the Rumble, but it also has that tolex, or whatever material that is wrapped around it, which I suppose protects it. I'm certainly not going to play it in the rain, either.
