It seems like the Ric is almost a medium scale bass then, or in between a medium scale (which is typical 32",) and long scale typically 34".)

Yeah,......... it's a breed of it's own in a way. The 33.25" scale feels ok. Better for me than a 30." scale that I liked for so long. The nut measures out to 1.688", that's bit over a Fender Precision at 1.625" at the nut. But that's still less the original Precision nut at 1.75", as on the Roger Waters Precision.

That's interesting that the nut is wider on the Ric. For some reason, I thought they'd be around the size of a Jazz. The nut width of the Ibanez is 41mm or 1.61417 inches, according to the site specs and conversion calculator.

That's just a smidge under a Precision's nut size. The one thing I think that helps my short fingers to move well on the wide neck on the 4003 , is the 10" radius of the fretboard. the flatter fretboard is easier for my fingers to stay up higher above the strings.

Yeah, the Ibanez might seem to be wide, but the short scale and flat neck makes it so you don't even notice that. It's pretty fast neck.

I think the Ibanez is a damn slick bass. That may have been one of your finer acquisitions.

Oh by the way, speaking of Ibanez, they brought back the hollow body models. You know, those Artcore AGB200 and AFB200 basses? I happened to see that on their site. http://www.ibanez.com/products/u_eb_ser ... d=59&pre=0 I remember they had dropped them for a little bit, but it looks like they're back, with new finishes, this time. I'm not sure if anything else is different. I never got to play any of them, but I always liked the way they looked.

Yeah, that can happen sometimes. I wouldn't mind one of those, myself.

I played a used one at the local Margate Sam Ash store. It had a very nice tone to it. I just didn't have the cash available at the time. The old story, right?

And of course, when you might have the means to actually get it, the opportunity is gone, because it's no longer there for whatever reason.

You know, there's a lot of psychological crap that goes with music gear. Usually, it's regret from both not getting something, and getting something by getting rid of something else. Meanwhile, it's all just tools used in musical expression, which is an emotional thing, so I suppose that would be why there is that effect.
