I ran into an old friend at a local Denny's. So we're talking about gear, and he said he was looking for a tube head. And it turned out I sold him my Fender / Ampeg setup. So after I left Denny's, I did the transaction, then I took a trip down to GC. After about a half hour, I drove home with a Markbass Combo, and a cab. A 12" set up. Both in the cartons.

I thought your gear list looked a bit different. :P What's the story with that amp? I've seen them online, but never in person.

The cab has a level attenuator for the tweeter. The typical Combo, 500 watts head @ 4 ohms, 300 watts @ 8 ohms. It's pretty good though, both the Combo, and the cab are 400 watts RMS. It's one of the closest tube sounding SS heads I've played through. I know there's other SS heads that work like that too, but I like the size and setup. The Combo Head ll, is the same head as the Little Mark lll Head, except it has no top plate mounted on it.

That's pretty cool. 8) It looks like it's pretty compact, too. Not too shabby with 500 watts with both cabs going and with 12" speakers, either.

I think they're one of the better compact Combos with the power, and sound. They run a bit more in price than the comparable Rumble, but they do have 200 more watts than a Rumble 100 Combo, @ 8 ohms. The extension cab can be used with the CMD 121P also.

I remember you wanted to original get a combo with a 12" speaker (like the Rumble 100.) This looks like an ideal setup for that because you have a little more versatility with it, I think.

You Betcha' Paul. If I remember correctly, the Rumble 100 doesn't have the ability to have an extension cab run off of it. I'm not crazy about the black fur outer material. Nothings perfect though. All in all it's a good player. Too bad GC is the sole retail outlet for Markbass.

We use to call it rat fur covering. If you had a cat, they'd certainly like it, too. :P I know what you mean with Guitar Center. Not exactly my top choice of places to shop for gear, although I did buy my Rumble 350 in there, which has now been 5 years, come to think of it. I had bought it in January of 2012. You can probably still find my original thread relating to it from back then on the forum, but I had a different account at the time that I got rid of. It was even a different one from the one I had when we started shooting the breeze and then went over to that other forum.

My cat Louie LOVES rat fur. He prefers it over any scratching post, scratching box or anything else. I now am fortunate enough to have a music room where I keep most of my gear but in my former residence he would climb my rat fur amp stack in a heartbeat, jump from the ATA head case to the top of the curtain rod over the sliding glass door, do a Walking Wallenda style traverse of the rod in both directions a few times, sometimes stumbling a bit for dramatic effect just like Karl Wallenda used to do, then finish each thrilling performance with a high dive from the rod to a bed a full 5 feet away. This was especially thrilling when you were sleeping soundly in the bed and a 15 pound Tom landed on your chest.

That's cats for you. I've noticed they particular like to get rambunctious around 3 AM after they take a dump or something. :P

The cat we had, would jump from a night stand, to the top of the Bedroom door. That made a nice bang sound when the doorknob hit the wall. Shady also liked to climb the drapes to get to the rod up top. Shady was with us for 22 years. I luckily had Tolex back then.

That's a long run for a cat. Since we live in my girlfriend's mother's summer house, we can't have a cat here because her mom is extremely allergic to them. My girlfriend is too, but not severely. The last time I had a cat was when I lived with my ex-wife in Brandon, Florida. That was about 15 years ago.

I'm getting a custom to the Markbass gear as it is. The sound is a good 12" bass tone. The power from it is likable as well. It moves the air well.

That's good you're digging it. You think it will be a keeper?
