I can definitely see the appeal in them. Especially if you want to do something different than what ever the popular cab set up is that's going on with everyone else. I think that's why I've always avoided 4 x 10" cabs, not because they aren't good, because that's all you see anyone using for bass. Sometimes, that can be problematic, though, like me getting my 18" speaker situated. I had to get an extra cab for it, when I could have just simply got one of those 4 x 10" cabs and be done with it. That just seems so generic, though. I guess I'd like some version of a 60's type amp, yet louder or some ways modernized (like the Orange Terror Bass is.) I could do something like taking an old Marshall 4 x 12" cab (or that one Fender Bassman one that had the angled speakers) and putting in heavy duty speakers that can handle bass at a loud volume without them blowing up, yet have that aesthetic to them from that time period.

I like the 12's by themselves, without mixing them with any other sizes. It seems to be a common thing to want to mix a 410 cab, and a 15 cab, and then question, or wonder if the 410's are going to over power the 15.

Oh yes, the usually inquiries at Talk Bass. :P You know, I never thought about stuff like that with the cabs. I either used something and it either worked or it wouldn't, I guess. It always worked, but the only thing you have to worry about really is not go below the minimum ohm load for your amp. That's when you have problems, not necessarily whether one speaker gets more watts than the other does, or whatever the hell they worry about with that.

Of course, there is always the risk of blowing your speakers if your putting too much power through them and they can't handle it for long. The only time I had that issue was when I had the Peavey Databass combo with the Black Widow 15" speaker. I did fry it a couple of times because I cranked the hell out of it and I'm not sure if it really could take the 450 watts the amp put out. Either that, or I pumped in too much low frequencies through it with the EQ. Who knows? I was a total newb and didn't really know a lot about that sort of thing back then. I only knew the ohms rule.

You guessed the base line of my sarcasm right away Paul. I was more aware of the impedance, than who got more power. As long as the cabs can carry the rated power for each, no problem. I have always been more careful of not over powering a cab, than go ahead, run that 600 watt head through that 250 watt cab, and listen for signs that the speaker, or (speakers), and the cab is coming apart. Yeah, you can usually tell when a speaker starts flapping pretty hard and all of that.

I just don't like it to get to that point.

Yeah, things can start getting sketchy when that happens for too long.

I know 18" speakers aren't cheap, although I got my Celestion for $150, but it was some close out deal, or whatever. They're pretty sturdy, though. They're designed to handle the lows more, I think.

Yep, for the reason they somewhat sound better with a higher volume. More surface area.

I didn't get chance to crank up the 212's today, but I did run the USA GL through the 212's for about an hour, and a half. Beautiful sounds.

I'll bet it was. You know, if I had it all over to do again, I would have gotten that one 12" Eden cab. I don't know if you remember me posting about that a while back. It was a 300 watt cab and very compact. Pretty cheap, too. You could carry it with one hand. I think it weighed 35 pounds, or something like that. That would have been ideal for small gigs, especially with transporting it. I would just have to be careful with how much juice I pump in from the Orange into it, plus for larger events, I do have the 18" speaker. I don't think they had that available when I got the 2 x 10" cab, otherwise I might have done that. It doesn't match up like the 2 x 10" cab. since that one is from the same company, but it would be practical.

I think I remember you kicking around the 12" Eden cab. It would be a decent cab. 12" Speakers don't get the respect they really are do for Bass Amps. They do hold up better than 10's.
