I know what you mean. I have a 1000 watt bass head (Orange Terror Bass) and I've yet to remotely crank the thing full blast. It's actually a bit over kill for what I've been using it for, but I got it for dirt cheap so that's why I have it. I guess if I ever needed the horse power, it's there. I do love it's portability, though. You can just sling it over your should with it's carry case and use the extra pouch for cables. That will be handy for gigs for loading in and out.

Your Orange Terror has a size advantage over the Ampeg SVT-7PRO head. Good choice for a 1000 watt head.

Yeah, it is quite portable, especially with it's carry bag. I think that's one of the things I like about it the most. That will be a great advantage if I do any gigs in New York City again.

That Orange is a pretty compact package.

Yeah, that much is true. I would have never imagined something like that available years ago.

Amazing, isn't it??? - my Streamliner 900 weighs 6lbs, fits in a laptop bag, has 3 tubes in it, and puts out 900 watts @ 4ohms - paired with a PH115, it makes a potent "combo:

I'm going to the Fender Bassman 500 head, and the Ampeg Heritage SVT-410HLF cab. I like the US Eminence 410's sound, and the cab is front ported. A 500 watts RMS, 4 ohm cab, that peaks out at 1,000 watts. I just like a single 4 ohm cab to get the full wattage out of it, as opposed to using two 8 ohm cabs to get the full wattage.

Fender Bassman 100 or the Bassman 135 head; those amps have to be set up right!
Choose the cabinet you prefer - I love a ported 2 x 15 cabinet with these amps and take care of your back! Dolly please....

I've been using Eden amps and cabs for a little over a year now. They sound great, with a very clean, fat sound.
I can use the small amp and the 112 cab for small to medium rooms, and the big amp with any or all of the cabs for bigger rooms and outdoors. The 410 will be sold to pay for an Eden 410 by next year. A big round sound comes from even the smallest rig that I choose.
Amps: WTX500 and WT550
Cabs: D210XLT, D112XLT and Gallien-Krueger MBE410.

I've used Gallien Krueger heads in the past (the 800RB, to be precise,) but never got to play through a Gallien Krueger cab. In fact, I've never even seen one in person other than perhaps a Sam Ash or Guitar Center store. Anyone that I knew that had them were with other cabs for some reason.

What I found out is that it's probably better in the long run to buy the same brand amp and cabs , at least in my case where I had both Eden and GK gear. Your rig might end up being a better fit if it's all the same brand.
Mr Nylon's rig looks pretty bad $@! though. It's the whole package what counts.

I had bought the GK 410 cab new from a store that had lots of GK gear and it wasn't moving very fast so he put this cab up for sale at $100 off his already good price and I snagged it up. I was looking for a GK 1001RB head (750 watts at 4 ohms) but couldn't find one used and didn't have the money for a new one. The 1001RB has a knob to control the tweeter on the 410. The cab has no tweeter control on the back, only an on/off switch. That would have been an awesome rig. I played the GK 410 through a solid state Ampeg SVT350 and it was good but I wanted a little more power.

I had played an Eden rig years ago and was very impressed with the fat tone they produce, so it was always in the back of my mind. Then I found an Eden WTX500 head used and very cheap. I played the Eden head with the GK cab for most of a year and the sound was ok but wasn't quite right. Then I found a used Eden D210XLT cab in a town 150 miles away for half of new retail price, so I bought it. When I paired the Eden cab and head it was miles ahead of mixing the brands, and for me it's better than a GK rig too. Eventually I found another Eden head and cab used and bought them too, for another great deal. I couldn't be happier.

Granted, if I had found some used GK gear first I would probably be using that now instead but I'm extremely happy with the rig I play now. I plan to sell the GK 410 and get another Eden cab. Don't get me wrong, I like the GK stuff too but Eden is more right for me.

Thanks 63p. I like the SVT-410HLF being a 4 ohm cab, so with the Bassman 500 being 500 watts @ 4 ohms, the full wattage is there. And the head is nice, and light. Image

Lighter is what I'm after these days too. The Eden 112 cab of mine is about 32 pounds, and that's real nice for loading in. Paired with my 4 1/2 pound amp it's great. I'm thinking I need a pair of those in 4 ohms. That would be enough cab to run both my amps at their full range, and light too. One cab for the little amp and two for the big one.
Then maybe my G.A.S. will be quieted for a while. :)
