Before investing in a SVT-CL, check out the new Super Bassman. Very impressive. I have had it for about a month I think, plus or minus. 100% satisfied. A little fan noise, almost totally quiet. Huge power. And it weighs a bit less, too.

Have yet to blast the cabs, but the head is very nice.

The Super Bassman is indeed a very impressive Head as is the Bassman 100T
Fender did their Homework on these heads,.....Affprod what cabinet do you have?

I've often wondered if Fender based the design of their Bassman Neo Cabinets on the SWR Neo Golight cabinets,Notably the Golight Marcus Miller non ported cabinet......they've both got a similar design & the new Bassman Neo cabinets came on the scene as Fender was fading out SWR & the Golight cabinets hmmm.. who knows??,....in any event I have a 4ohm Golight 4x10 cabinet & I love it,.....I sometimes pair it up with a SWR 4ohm Goliath Jr. 2x10 ......... SWEET!!! & tight :) IMO

Yeah I've said it here before,...TC Electronic makes good innovative reliable gear. :)
MarkBass also make reliable gear,....

If I ever had to replace my SWR Rig ... both TC & MarkBass would be a consideration
especially TC Electronic.

With either one, they work well, and are very close for settings, and sounds. The TC E just had a couple extra things I wanted to have onboard. Either one also for me, sounds better going through the Ampeg HSVT-410HLF cab, than an Ampeg head does. From what I'm hearing also, some of the Ampeg heads are having reliability problems. GK heads do good powering the Ampeg 410 cabs also.

There's a whole thread on the Talkbass blog regarding the reliabiliy of the Ampeg Porta Flex heads.....some of them apparantly started smoking & then died ...... yikes ...... I also heard that a few have come back to my local music store in need of repair...

Right now I am using a 1x15 and a 4x10. Sounds good indoors, but I have yet to push them outdoors. The only negative comments I have seen had to do with face vibration at very high push. I have two outdoor gigs in February but that is the first real opportunity I have to really let them fly.

The head is way cool.

Ampeg 7PRO heads have also had some reported failures of cutting out, loosing power, etc. Markbass, and TC E have been doing ok for myself, as you have had great workings with your SWR gear. It's good to have gear that is trusted to work.

Yes I also read about the Ampeg 7 Pro Heads having similar issues,...I've heard that Mark Bass units are tuff & can take a kicking & I'd really have to abuse my SWR 750X, Headlite & Amplite & Cabinets for them not to work....they're built like tanks,...My 750X was built in the Corona plant & my Headlite, Amplite & Cabinets were built in Fender's Mexico plant where a lot of Fender Amplification is made. :) or rather was made,....the last generation of Bassman combo's were made in mexico,...the new one's (Bassman 100T & Super Bassman ) are made in the Corona plant & the Rumble line of amps & Bronco 40 are made in China...

My Ampeg cab is an American made Heritage. The Markbass Little Mark lll head is made in Italy. The TC Electronic RH450 head is made in Indonesia. When I ordered the Ampeg PF-500 head, I had no clue of them cutting out, shorting out, and or smoking to death. I returned it because, no matter what, and how I tried to adjust the settings, it had no bottom to it at all. I returned it, and then heard of the failure issues with them.

Hence their new nick name of Potty-Flex  There over 600 threads about the Potty-Flex taking a dump. One thread is a self report poll of failures with nearly 40% of respondants reporting catastropic failures. TalkBass worships on the alter of Ampeg, and 'the Ampeg sound' is apparently the Voice of God to them.

Ampeg treats their loyal customers like poo and lies to them about their failure rate, and keeps them waiting for months for repairs. Ampeg's wattage ratings are rather fancyful lies, and are way over-rated.

Ampeg's BA series of combos are also prone to failure and other isses related to shoddy build quality.

One would be well advised to steer clear of all things Ampeg. For the life of me, I do not understand why there isn't a class action lawsuit against Ampeg and their parent company, LOUD. I keep looking for a law firms' comercials on TV.

Yes it certainly is The Worship Hall of Ampeg over at TalkBass,......I've read threads where Die Hard Ampeg users Bash Amps from SWR & The Fender Rumble line of amps,..
Well who's having the last laugh now.... :)
Gallien Kreuger was starting to have issues with their Made is China stuff & moved all production back to California a year ago.

I made the mistake of buying a PF500. It died on me (alas, no smoke) two days before a gig and I had to use other gear. Ampeg fixed it because it was still under warranty but I have not used it since I got it back and will likely try to sell it.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Sad,.... I think the Ampeg PF line of amps are cool but the steady flow of
owners with issues is not good for business,....I'll be steering clear from them myself & that being said I don't think I'll be in the market for an amp for a while .......ahhh the curse of having reliable gear.... :)

I used AMPEG SVT forever then went to GK RB800 with an AMPEG cabinet. I have an AMPEG 350 solid state but I don't think it's 350 watts loud.

Glad to hear GK is back in the USSA. It would be nice if they made the RB800 again.

I've been using the RB 800 with an Epifani 1-15 and an Ampeg HLF 4-10. The RB 800 is bi-amp and the crossover adjusting really lends itself to working the two cabinets together to get a nice sound AND it's as loud as I can stand if I want it to be.
