I have used a Gallien Kreuger 800 RB head through a Hartke Systems 410 cabinet (for smaller shows) + a Hartke 210 (brought as well for bigger shows). I've used the same set-up since 1988. I've replaced each of the speakers & bought a 2nd GK 800 RB when my 1st one was stolen in 1997. A very reliable, punchy rig!

I think RB-800's kick butt. I've used mine since 1998. Not a whole lot of people use them. Mainly because they don't make them anymore and maybe people who have them know that and won't dare part with them. Flea used to use them. Maybe he still does. I really never care much what anyone uses. Is that odd?

SV=Yeah I just never thought about it until I posted on here-- but I never think what other people use and I can hardly ever tell anyway when I see bands in videos. There are certain amps I know I would not use again.

BRO DAVE=No it is not odd to ( not) care what other people use. Probably wisest to make up your own mind. Many top touring guys have endorsement deals and get free stacks.

Flea recently switched to using an array of ACOUSTIC USA 360/361 stacks. $5,000 per stack and he's using at least 3 at once. You can see that on their website. It is a recent switch. No way am I interested in that kind of thing since I don't have a tractor trailer or roadies.

I been posting here ( I believe it's on this thread some where) that I was looking for a 2nd Amp head as a safety in case my SWR Headlite were to have an issue,....I'm an SWR fan & my whole rig is SWR,... I have a Headlite & Amplite with 3x 4 ohm SWR cabinets,...( A 4x10 Golight, a 4x10 Workingpro & a 2x10 Goliath Jr.) & I've been looking at other brands because SWR has been put on the shelf by Fender....so I've looked at the GK MB Fusion 800,TC Electronic RH750, Mark Bass Little Mark Tube 800, Ampeg Porta Flex 800 & Rumble 350,..........& this week I pulled the trigger & bought a 2nd Head,....actually this Head trumps my SWR Headlite,..... I was luckily enough to buy an SWR 750X that's been hanging around Long & McQuade Music in Vancouver for a long time,.......it was off the sales floor for a bit & I thought it had been sold,......I've always liked this head & when I didn't see it anymore I thought it was time to move on & then while I was at Long & McQuade Music last Thursday to buy some strings,....low & behold there it was..with a blow out sale price of $699.00 ( regular price is $1495) ......so I had the sales guy put it on Hold for me for a few days & I'd be back,....well I came back yesterday & picked it up & spent half the day messing around with it & all I can say is WOW!!! I love this head,......& being familiar with SWR I had no problem dialing in a nice sound,......I love the Overdrive option & Sub Wave option with accompanying 2 switch foot switch that comes with this head to activate these effects,....& the other cool thing (actually really cool thing) about this head is (& I knew this from last fall) is that Marcus Miller used this head at Long & McQuade last October when he did a bass clinic there,....I was at that clinic & was blown away with the Full tight tone(or sound) Marcus Miller was getting with the 750X....Anyway I know I'm being a little long winded but,....my search is over & I was able to keep my purchase in the SWR Family... :)
.....Oh & I also picked up the newly released MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe,.....I briefly messed around with it at home,........if you're looking for a Chorus pedal that also doubles as a Flanger,....this is the pedal to get.

Thanks for Asking,... :) & now that the novelty is over &I've used it for a couple of months how do I feel about this head/ ....Well I still think the SWR 750X is an awesome head,..... very similar to my 400W SWR Headlite but on a larger scale,..I've got it paired with my SWR Golight 4x10 4ohm cabinet
This head kicks.......at one point I wanted to see how it would sound with my SWR Goliath Jr. 2x10 4ohm cabinet & my SWR Amplite . (also 400W) added to the mix & all I can say is WOW!! ( I also remember saying WOW!! last October 2012 when Marcus Miller was using my 750X to do a BASS Clinic here Vancouver)... anyway I couldn't put the volume pass 2 in my house without shaking the walls,.....so it's nice to know that I have that option if ever needed, the overdrive & Sub Bass options (activated with provided foot pedal) that come with the 750X are nice though after using this head for the last 2 months I think I prefer the distortion I get from my MXR M80 Bass DI, I'm not really much of a distortion guy but I like just a little touch of it to beef up my sound...& I should add that I'm using the MXR M80 Bass- DI & MXR Bass Compressor to help round out my sound,( just as I do with my Headlite & Amplite) .... these are two great MXR pedals I think should always be brought along with you to any gig or practice.
The Sub Bass option on the 750X is essentially an Octaver, I like it, it works well though I don't know how often I'd use it,..... another cool feature (similar to some GK heads) is the Turbo Bass & Transparency options ...... pull the Bass knob & you get added low end & pull the treble knob & the high end is accentuated ..........all in all a very well made head, made in the USA at Fender's Corona plant,......I'm very happy with my purchase, especially being a fan of SWR products but it's also a bitter sweet feeling though...& as I've said here before, to see SWR fade into the sunset is sad as they made such good quality products with bass players in mind,.....even though I know SWR is not everyone's cup of tea. I think in a few years there may be a renewed interest in SWR as their stuff starts flooding the used market,..... I've heard people have said that some SWR suff like my 750X head will become a collectors item,.....I'm not sure about that & we'll see because there's a lot of good smaller D class heads flooding the market & I think that was part of what SWR couldn't compete with as they came to the micro head market a little late,.......that being said I'm still very impressed with the construction & usability of SWR's Headlite & Amplite...

No matter how good the brand is, it's tough when it starts to fade away. Sunn for one

So True,... it was sad to see both Sunn & Acoustic fade away,...Acoustic has made a bit of a resurgence & Fender tried to resurect the classic Sunn 300 Coliseum amp as the Bassman 300 but failed,....... the day I went down to Long & McQuade to pick up my 750x
there was a Fender bassman 300 with matching cabinet ( I can't remember if it was a 6x10 or 8x10 cabinet) but the whole unit was half price in the $1500. range .... being a gearwhore I was temped ..LOL  but wow!! what a beautiful head & cabinet ....too bad the re-issue didn't catch on :( Hey I gotta say I'm liking your American Deluxe..beautiful, :) I have the natural finish 5 string model, that's usually payed in passive mode..
How's your Mark Bass head working out for you?

The Markbass Combo with the cab, is really getting the sounds out of the Jazz big time. In passive mode, as well in active. I really am liking the combination of Jazz, and the Markbass 12's. A very clean low bottom sound. Also, have not had any hum from the N3 pups.

I've heard others commenting on the good sound of the Jazz Bass/Mark Bass Combination .....good for you,...there's no greater feeling than finding your sound & finding an amp that you you have confidence will get the job done............ & with regard to the N3 pickups I don't get any hum from mine either....(also a good feeling) :)

A bass that plays solid, no N3 hum, and an amp that kicks. Life's good right James? 8)

A little different way of getting access to the amp head's back panel.

It's bit awkward getting to the back panel however.

No problem. Every things there, just in the up position. It's easy enough to see the panel if needed.

Today's amps..I just can't trust. Most of them don't even look "road worthy". They're getting more powerful, but I bet they're being made with cheaper offshore components...just a hunch.

I'm just gonna buy a lifetime's worth of older Peavey combo bass amps...like the TNT160, or a Combo 300 that still has a fresh speaker. Two or three of 'em should last a good while. The Fender BXR's are pretty good, too.
