That's true. That movie was pretty graphic. So was the remake for "The Thin Red Line," which came out in 1998. They wanted to add some realism, I suppose.

WWII is still popular to make movies about.

That's true. I recently watched "Enemy At The Gates." That was a good flick, I thought.

Saving Private Ryan, is a pretty authentic sound, as far as the rounds whizzing by. The Vietnam movie I get drawn to, like a moth to a flame, We Were Soldiers. Even though it was the basic early onset to the hostilities there, I get a bit uneasy at times viewing it.

Yeah, I remember talking to you a long time ago about those movies based on Vietnam, and you were saying that one was pretty authentic, or close to it, anyway. They always embellish things in Hollywood. What about "Full Metal Jacket?" Did you ever watch that one? I know it's based on the Marines and not the Army, though.

Funny you mention Full Metal Jacket. I've been on a kick lately watching that one. I have it recorded, and it's been played on cable recently. Stanley Kubrick did a decent job with that one. The DI was R. Lee Emery, a former DI. He was also a technical advisor for the movie. I heard they didn't really have a script for him as he was the DI. So he was able to do as he did in the Marines, the real DI. He was laid to rest in Saint Petersburg, FL., April 15, 2018. He was one azz kicking SOB.

I got along great with Marines. We thought the same way, "Kill them all, let God sort them out!" They liked that I was partial to a 14, over the 16A1 as well. The Marines! First to fight!

Wow, I didn't know he's buried in St. Petersburg. That's my old stomping grounds, you know. I wonder if he's buried in the same cemetery as my grandmother is? They were saying he made up a lot of what he said during that role that wasn't scripted. I used to like to watch that one show he did with the guns that I think was on the History Channel. "Lock And Load," or something like that. I think he had another show, besides that, as well.

I know my cousin was in the Marines for that war. He did two tours and got caught up in some really nasty $@!& over there, from what my dad told me. He could have been at Khe Sanh, or somewhere like that. My dad did tell me he was involved with really heavy combat, that much I did know. I do remember him when I was a little kid, but he died in 1978 from falling off a balcony in Washington, DC. He was exposed to Agent Orange, which gave him some problems, so I suppose that might have caught up with him, anyway. I guess that war could wind up getting you, even if you managed to live through the fighting, itself.

If he was in over there in 1968, the infamous Tet Offensive went down. That really swung Charlie's way.

Yeah, that could have been when he was there. If he was at Khe Sanh, that was right before that happened, but the same year from what I read. Khe Sanh was one hell of a $@!& show. The Wikipedia article about it said that General Westmoreland even considered using nuclear weapons, if the situation got worse. That information was classified at the time. I imagine that probably wouldn't have gone down to well with the public if that info got out.

I had never heard that before about Willie want to nuke Charlie. You're so right, that wouldn't have gone over well at all, since it was some what of a civil war between the two Nam's. The basic reason all of the countries that were there, fighting Charlie, was because of the SEATO Pact nations. (Southeast Asian Treaty Organization). The counter part to NATO in Europe.

Yeah, I imagined if that happened, your life probably would have taken a different turn. I doubt there would have been a need to get drafted, since there would have been much left to fight, even if it was low level nukes they were looking into. Then again, that could have started World War 3, which would have been a hell of a lot worse than all of that.

In 1964 when Barry Goldwater was running against LBJ, he wanted to put it to em' also.

Barry Goldwater did? Funny, LBJ is the one that escalated that whole thing in the first place.

He was a five time Republican Senator, from Arizona, and in the words of the 60's, he was a "hawk'. Meaning he was for the war.

I've read about him a bit. It probably was a good thing he wasn't president, especially with the whole nuke thing.
