I suppose that would be better than having the said invention going wrong and leading to your demise. There was this guy back during around the time of World War 1 that jumped off of the Eiffel Tower to test his parachute suit by wearing it himself and not using some sort of dummy or whatever. People tried to talk him out of it, but he refused, and the whole thing was caught on film. It didn't work out, and gravity wasn't his friend. I'm not sure if that qualifies for a Darwin award, or not, though. Trying to test if a thick book will stop a .50 AE round by holding it in front of you, while someone fires a Desert Eagle at you, certainly does. That actually did happen last year. I read about it on the news. They do make ballistics gel for a reason, you know. :P

.50 AE rounds are a volatile cartridge to say the least. I never did anything with the Desert Eagle series. I sold them, and or ordered them in for customers. That was about it.

I know they are expensive as hell, that's for sure. I do remember going into a sporting goods store called Bill Jackson's one time with my dad for whatever reason, and I wound up taking to the guy at the gun counter and he showed me a .50 AE cartridge. The damn thing was as big as my thumb. I think they also make or made 1911 style pistols that chamber it, besides the Desert Eagle. Probably revolvers, too. I imagine you'd need moon clips for it, for those, like the .45 ACP, since they aren't rimmed.

For the revolver, the moon clips would be in all probability the way on that one. I had couple of the S&W mod. 625-5? I think they were the SS .45ACP revolver. A big N-frame S&W. I really loved the N-frame S&W revolvers. The mod. 27, and and 28 .357's were about as close to my favorites.

Did you ever come across any of those Colt or S&W M1917 .45 ACP revolvers that the military had back in the day? I know they were used even up to the Vietnam War for the tunnels rats, from what I've read.

No, I never did. I just used the Colt 1911A1 .45ACP semi auto pistol. But then again, I never did a tunnel.

Yeah, I imagine that probably wasn't the ideal job to do over there. Crawling around in the dark like that, not even knowing what you'd run into, and they went in alone, didn't they, or was there more than one person?

One guy, all by his lonesome with a flashlight, and a .45 pistol.

Wow, that sounds like a party. I'll bet you were glad you never had to do that. What was the actual purpose of that, to see how long and where those tunnels went too? It must have been something to risk some guy going in there by themselves.

The tunnels were used to store weapons, and munitions. Supplies in general. I took my chances above ground. I'm a bit claustrophobic I guess too.

Yeah, although if I had to choose, I'd take the tunnels over carrying a flame thrower. Then again, you didn't really use those portable ones like they had in WW2 over there, did you?

I don't know if they were old, or new design. I just know they were there in limited supply from what I saw.

As nasty as those things can be towards the enemy, you don't want to have one on you and it get shot and blow up on you. I remember my uncle was talking about those when he was in the Pacific Islands during WW2. They'd use them to burn out Japanese soldiers hiding in caves. They don't mention or show that stuff in those old John Wayne movies, did they?

No, but they showed I think in Saving Private Ryan, in one of the D-Day invasion scenes. The tank was hit by a bullet.
