I guess the main thing with that was you had to change out the barrel, after an extensive amount of firing, and had to use an asbestos glove do that, didn't you?

Getting back to the amp topic, even though they are a bit more expensive, probably because they've moved all of their production and assembly to their California place, if I was looking for another bass amp, and had the ways and means, I'd seriously look into Gallien Krueger again. I was watching a demo video for their new Fusion S Series amps, and just really liked the tones the thing had. I've always liked them, anyway. I don't know, there was just something about it that just clicked with me.

GK amps have always been to the top of my list also.
I know the barrel was supposed to be changed out but I don’t remember him doing it. Maybe when we were back from the dog walk I guess.

Yeah, I've always had great results with their 800RB head, which I was kind of shocked when they discontinued it. It was a classic, like an SVT, I think. I guess maybe because it wasn't 1000 watts and weighed 5 pounds, and you did have to have three 8 ohm cabs, or one 4 and one 8 ohm cab to get the full power out of it. It had two separate power sections, with one for the high end, and one for the low. The low was 300 watts in 4 ohms, and 200 into 8 ohms, and the high was 100 watts into 8 ohms, and it had some sort of crossover settings. I'm not sure if the high section could go to 4 ohms, or not. I don't remember, I'd have to research that.

Did he or anyone else carry an extra barrel with it? Wasn't that really supposed to be more than one person that operated it, with having extra ammo and stuff?

The mule was usually the youngest guy, and the shortest time in country. I didn't pay much attention to them, they usually didn't last that long. It wasn't unusual for most of us to help carry a belt or two for the Thumper.

That almost sounds like it was bad luck to have to carry that part around then.

I remember you had at least one Gallien Krueger amp. How many did you have, just that one?

I had a 700RB, and a Fusion 500 I think it was.

Yeah, you really didn't want to carry more than you had too. In my case, I was somewhat a back up with the 14. And, my ammo was about as heavy as the 60's was. In magazines, not belts.

I was seriously looking at a 700RB many moons ago, way before any of the new Class D stuff came out, and when they put the second version of it out. They had a combo version, as well. I just wasn't able to get the funds to get it at the time, otherwise I would have gotten it, and probably still have it. I though you also had one of those MB silver heads, like the 500 or the 800 watt one, as well?

What exactly did you take with you when you went out? I suppose ammo was probably the priority over everything else. How much of that could you even carry along with everything else?

If it was the MB Fusion 500, I did.

One canteen of water, 24 loaded magazines, and a bulk 200 pack of 7.62X51 rounds. Without carrying rations for a day or more, I could get pretty damn pissed off with just water in my gut. I was able to carry a bit more .308 for the 14 that way also. With the 14, I mostly fired semi, but I did have the activator key to go full ROCK AND ROLL with it.

Didn't you also have a .45 for a backup? That must have been pretty tough to do that in that humid environment and maintain any energy, especially being in that situation. I imagine you probably also had to be able to haul $@! when need be, as well, on top of that.

Oh yeah, I do remember you having the MB Fusion 500. I'm not sure what the difference is between that one and the new Fusion amps in which I posted that demo video. I think maybe the new ones might have an expanded tube preamp section, maybe with extra tubes in it. I know it does look a little different. I haven't really compared them both. I was looking around with all of the Gallien Krueger heads, and noticed that not all of the heads are available with the few online stores that carry them. I couldn't get Sam Ash's site to work at all today, since it gave me a 502 timed out message (I've noticed their site has been kind of wonky for awhile, with the few times I've been there in the past year or so,) but I looked at Guitar Center (didn't bother with Musician's Friend, since it's the same thing,) Sweetwater, Chicago Music Exchange, and Full Compass, who seemed to have carried the majority of their stuff.

They still make the RB series heads with the 700 RB, 1001 RB, and 2001 RB heads, which is cool, since that's like their classic design, or the next generation, since the original (at least going back to the 80's) ones were the 800 RB and 400 RB heads, and whatever was earlier to that. The 1001 RB is only $100 more than the 700 RB, and it's 700 + 50 watts, compared to 480 + 50 watts for the 700 RB, being $749, and $849. The 2001 RB is $1529, but that thing is some massive two channel stereo amp. They all are expensive, at least to me, but then again most of Gallien Krueger is these days, probably because they are assembled and engineered in California. If I had the cash, I'd probably go with the 1001 RB, since if I could swing the $749, I probably could manage the extra $100. Plus, it's 480 watts into 8 ohms, which is perfect for my Fender cab. That's of course, just that series.

I did carry a .45. Not everyone qualified with a .45ACP. I only carried a belt to two for the thumper. The rest was my ammo.

I'm not even sure if SA is carrying G&K any longer. I think I changed out the MB Fusion for a tube head, again.

I remember you telling me that you had to qualify for everything you carried. It's kind of strange, when you think if you shoot one gun, how much different another one is, but I guess they had their regulations and all. Did you also carry spare mags for the .45?

I don't know what Sam Ash is doing, since I couldn't get into their web site yesterday. Maybe, I'll try again today. I wonder if Gallien Krueger is having the same issue like Hartke had with them being available in various places like Guitar Center?

I did carry 4-6 extra .45 mags. The Semi-auto pistol is actually more dangerous to carry than a rifle is. Plus you have to know how to break it down for cleanings, and also how to clear a jam if that occurs. I did carry a lot of extra ammo. I was there for one grim objective, to take out Charlie with extreme prejudice. Light Sabres weren't available.

I didn't try to get into SA yet. With G&K, who knows.

I've always been partial to the blaster that Han Solo had, instead of a light saber. :P You know, the funny thing about Star Wars, is it's set a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away. So apparently that could have taken place when we were still using flintlocks, or maybe even throwing spears. Because we don't have that technology, it doesn't mean someone from some other galaxy somewhere doesn't, or even did thousands of years ago.

I just tried to get into Sam Ash's site, which I could on the homepage, but not the menu. I typed in Gallien Krueger in their search window, and that more or less worked by showing some GK products, but I couldn't adjust the amount per page, sort it in any way (by price, etc.,) or even go to another page that's supposed to be there. Apparently, they have 37 items available, but I could only see 15, and most of those are those combos, cabs, and that MB Fusion 800 head, and some preamp pedal. In other words, their site is still screwed up, but not as bad. You'd think they'd have that fixed, unless their website is an afterthought to their actual store locations.

A light saber is so up close, and personal. I did a couple of hand too hand's,.............. no fun at all! Scary as hell actually.

I'll have to give SA a try later on, and see how I do getting into it.

I have noticed their site has been problematic from time to time.
