It's kinda' iffy about what Class D heads can run without a load. When in doubt, not sure, etc., contact the customer relations of the amps company to find out for sure. If I remember correctly the TCE RH450 I had was able to power up, and run without a load.

Yeah, I did read about the different TC Electronic amps can do that, besides that particular model. They did say you can do that with the Ampeg (I think the manual does mention that, but I'd have to check it again,) but I have yet to even try it out. I do have the MXR Bass preamp to record with, so it's not something that's a big deal to do right now.

I don't remember about the Ampeg. The RH450 is a real kicker of an amp too.

They seemed like pretty cool amps. I don't know if he still is, but I know John Paul Jones started using an RH750 head a while back. He was using SWR amps for years, but of course, they aren't around anymore.

I do remember you telling me about JPJ using the RH750 head.

That's what I've seen, anyhow. He's all over the place musically these days, playing all kinds of music and using different types of instruments besides bass. Then again, he did that in Led Zeppelin, too.

A pretty versatile player. 8)

He is that, and I think very underrated with his contributions to Led Zeppelin's music. You've always hear about Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and even John Bonham, and rightfully so, but he seems to be just in the background when it comes to all of that. The thing was, he composed a lot of that music. He was the one who came up the riff for "Black Dog," just as an example.

JPJ pulled off some of the most trying riffs to play for a bass player to perform. He had to with Page as the lead, and no organ, or rhythm player. Case in point, "Dazed And Confused".

Oh yeah, that fast part during the guitar solo will make your hand fall off. I've always had trouble with it, at least.

You aren't the only one. I listen to Led Zeppelin quite a bit, and I'm always amazed with JPJ's bass parts. He really did a number with a Jazz. And always clean, and smooth.

Yeah, there's a lot of nuances and intricacies in his playing, as well. Sometimes, you might even miss a few things, because they might go by fast, unless you listen to them again in closer detail.

It's hard to find a fault in his playing.

That's true. He's also a composer, and a producer, as well, even going back into the 60's, before he was in Led Zeppelin.

Bass players do seem to be very talented in music. Somewhat very diversified in music.
