Yeah, and it all originates from skiffle, at least in the UK. :P I guess that wasn't something that happened in the US, though. Before The Beatles were known, music was pretty vacant around here, wasn't it? "How Much Is That Little Doggy In The Window?" and all of that stuff. What the hell did you even do with yourself during that time period? No wonder everyone freaked out in the 60's. :P

The Beach Boys were doing ok. And stuff like that. I don't know, we just did every day stuff.

Yeah, I suppose before The Beatles really broke big over here, you did have the whole surf rock thing going on, and I guess there was rockabilly, like the stuff from Sun Records, and blues, if you looked for it.

The Kingsmen, Buddy Holly, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, The Righteous Brothers, Jan and Dean, Ray Peterson, etc. There was music going on, just not as intense.

The Beatles first met in 1958, but that's a few years before they blew up. Imagine seeing them live in Hamburg, where they really got it together, but they didn't have those massive screaming crowds yet. I'll bet any of the people there didn't even imagine what they were seeing will become. Did you ever get to see anyone that later became famous when they were starting out?

Blues Image as band. I probably knew more players as individuals that made it. Frank Banali from Quiet Riot. Frank was just diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer.

I didn't know Blues Image were from Tampa (I just looked them up on Wikipedia,) but I remember their "Ride Captain Ride" song from the radio, which of course is typically all you'd hear there. I remember that with Frank Banali. Sad news, there. Speaking of Tampa, or Tampa Bay, I remember when Marilyn Manson was local playing around there before he got big in the 90's. He had an album out called "Lunchbox" and it was when he was known as Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids. I never saw them, or anything like that, I just remember that, especially after he got famous. Someone always starts from somewhere, that's for sure.

Frank was in a local band called Coventry Carol, then they changed it to Coventry. They did some damn good covers of Led Zeppelin songs. Frank had a new set of drums, either his mother, or grandmother bought him with this enormous Zildjian gong.

Oh yeah, I remember John Bonham had one of those, and set it on fire in the movie.

Frank's was about a 40", or 42" Gong. Not cheap. I knew Bonham had one also.

Yeah, drum stuff usually isn't cheap, that's for sure. We think bass stuff was expensive, but they have to fork out some bucks, too, especially back then.

The Gongs were back then hand made. A lot of man-hours going into the forming of them. Some of the Cymbals were also hand made, depending on the brand name of them.

I imagine so. A lot of work must go into them, especially by hand.

Gongs are made with mallets, pounding them into shape.

Oh yeah, I've seen them being done. Not in person, though. On some TV show or documentary film. I forget what it was.
