Yeah, that was the thing about it. It really didn't gel well with the violin bass. Who knows how well it would have with the Ibanez?

Not all bass / amp combinations play well. I thought the Player Jazz I had, did ok with the HD75. But now that I run the EB-3 through the same HD75, the EB-3 sounds better. More clarity, and push. It seems to be as you say about the comparison of the pups on you Douglas / Ibanez. The same as a comparison between the Jazz's Alnico V pups, and the Humbuckings on the EB-3.

That's true, there is something to that with pickups, amps, and all of that. That's interesting that you found the humbuckers having more clarity than the single coils. The wood on the bodies might also factor in, as well.

True. Mahogany has a fine resonance to it. I think my playing style helps to not restrict the bodies resonance. I don't rest my arm across the top of the body when playing. On the EB-3, my thumb is anchored to the left bottom corner of the rhythm pup. (the neck Humbucking). So whatever contact from my body up against the back of the EB-3's body is it.

Would you say you play close to the neck then?

No, the bass is about mid waist hight wise, more to the right side of my body, maybe half way between the front, and right side. 45 Degrees from center of the my body. Pretty much on the hip, and pointed at about a 45 degree angle pointed upward.
One adjustment I worked out with the EB-3, the neck is a 34" long scale, but because of the neck placement into the body, it's a little longer than a Fender. A slight relocation of the EB-3 to my body was all that was required. An inch shifted more on the hip, and a degree, or two higher on the angle of pitch. WAHLAHHH! Sometimes it doesn't take much of an adjustment.

Yeah, the Fender has an offset body, so I can see why it would be like that. So how is the weight been doing for you with this one?

I've noticed that I typically position my hand between the two pickups on the Ibanez, sometimes, more on the P pickup or slightly near the neck. Rarely near the bridge at all.

The weight has been fine, just a bit of neck dive. But that isn't that much, and comes with the SG design bass. Your hand position appears to be about the same as mine. I'm right below the top, rhythm pup. The big humbucking.

With my Fender Jazz basses I've been using a Genz Benz Shuttlemax 12.2 amp, with either one or two Schroeder 15PL cabs.

I think I may have misunderstood what you meant by close to the neck. My fingers are just below the neck humbucking, at the base of the neck.

Those were nice amps. It's too bad Fender shut it down, but now there's Genzler Amplification.

I'm wondering the reason for any neck dive with Gibson/Epiphone basses is because they typically don't have the offset body, like a Jazz or Precision?

It's the position of the front strap button, being straight down from the neck / shoulder. A lot of basses have the upper horn that extends pretty far out from the body, changing the angle, and supporting the neck, and head.

Yeah, that makes sense. You know, there were certain Steinberger basses have this extension bar on the top of the body, near the neck that comes out to where you can put a strap on it to balance it that way. By the way, have you ever messed around with those at all?

No, I never have. There's probably a good number of things like that I'm not aware of.
