I think a Bassman 500, and or a TCE 450.

How were those cabs, compared to the Ampeg ones you had?

They weren't too bad. Looking back on both brands though, I'd go with the Ampegs for either 10's, or 12's.

They were better cabs, you'd say?

Close, but overall, yes on the Ampeg cabs a bit better.

Yeah, the Ampeg cabs usually are built like tanks, and have good speakers in them. The only reason I didn't have one is because they didn't have one cheap enough at the time like they did the Fender. The Fender cabs are really good, as well, so it still worked out for me. Still, it would have been nice to have a matching cab to the head, but then again, I could reverse that with a matching head to the cab with the new Rumble 800.

It's funny how things work out with amps. I'm from the half stacks, to a 75 watt Combo. And liking it. Your PF-800, and 410 is a fine set up. I know what you're saying though about a Fender with a Fender. Especially with the Rumble 800HD, having a 2 ohm capability.

Yeah, that is a great feature with that amp. You think you like the small combos better, or do you ever miss running a half stack?

Yeah, the 2 ohm choice is a great step to get the Rumble 800HD a step up on a good number of the compact powerful amps. A $599. price sure doesn't hurt either.

The half stacks were pretty cool, and I did like the Ampeg V-4B / SVT-212AV over a lot of the combinations I did have. The Bassman Series heads were good with whatever cabs they were paired with as well.
But in all honesty, the Hartke HD75 Combo puts out a good sound in my small room, and that's all I really need. Power of the HD75, is really more than I expected from it. The 7 band EQ adds not only a better tone, but a few more dB's as well.

Yeah, I have to admit, that Rumble 800 is definitely a top contender for a replacement amp, if something ever happened to the Ampeg, which obviously I hope never does. I love how the Ampeg sounds, but that Fender does offer a lot, and I've always like the sound of them, anyway. Like I've said before, I just wish they'd put it out a hell of a lot sooner, but what can you do?

You'd say the Ampeg V-4B with the 2 x 12" was your favorite with the stacks?

You know, since you are playing in a relatively small room and not having a drummer bash away at you, that combo should be pretty formidable, especially with that speaker and EQ setup. I suppose if you had a weaker, less efficient speaker, it wouldn't be as much. There is something to that with speakers, I think.

Just the entire Ampeg setup was tuff. Two half stacks I thought were top contenders to the Ampeg, The Hartke HD115 cab, with the Super Bassman, and the HD212 cab, with the TX600. That Damn Super Bassman was a total killer going through the HD115. OH well,..........

Yeah, that was some killer rigs, I imagine. I'll bet that Ampeg V-4B would have also sounded killer with those HyDrive 12" cabs, or the other sizes as well. You never ran any Ampeg with the Hartke, did you?

No I didn't, and they would have done very well with the HyDrive cabs, now you mention it. Too late for that now.

True, you got the combo now. You know, I don't know if it will ever happen or not, but I still have my sights on one of those cabs, whatever configuration they might be. I think they'd sound really good with the Ampeg, like you said. I suppose you never know what can happen when it comes to gear. You might think you might just stick with something, and never get another thing, but sometimes things work out differently. I never thought I'd be able to sell the Orange when I wanted to, but then it worked out, and I got the Ampeg, which is a lot better for my sound. Of course, I also realize it wasn't necessarily the Orange that was my issue, it was also because of the pickups on the violin bass that were a culprit. I didn't realize this until I was able to plug it and the Ibanez into the Ampeg as a side by side. I just got the Ibanez when I sold the Orange, so I didn't really mess with that combination, only ran the violin bass in it. Maybe the Orange would have been OK, but the Ampeg sounds a lot better, and more configurable to me.

I think you were ok with moving the Orange. It had power, but not really the tone control I think you were after.
