Oh yeah. That is one fine head.

Yeah, like I've said before, I wish they'd put that one out a little sooner, I'd probably have one, instead of the Ampeg, not to knock it, since it's a great amp, but I do like the Fender stuff a lot, and I already have the Fender cab to match it.

It's nice to have the ability to select 2, 4, or 8 ohms on it as well.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about that one. That is a very handy bonus feature, I think. I know that there's been a few instances where that would have come in handy with me. Imagine, you could quadruple the amount of 8 ohm cabs with that in 2 ohm mode. That could be something like a 4 x 15" setup, if you had 15"s, and really shake the stage.

You bet. 4X15 Cabs are still amazing on stage. Ron's Kustom was the amp I would've loved to have had, above all others. His Acoustic 360/361 was a damn killer too!

I've only played through either two 15" cabs, or a 2 x 15" cab, but never double that amount to get four 15" speakers going. I imagine that would move some serious air. I suppose other than the Peavey Mark IV head, I never had an amp that went down to 2 ohms. Although, technically that isn't true in the sense where I could run two 4 ohm cabs, when I briefly had a Fender BXR400 head, which was 400 watts stereo, with two channels 200 watts each at 4 ohms. I wound up trading it in for an Ampeg SVT-3 Pro, because I didn't have enough cabs at the time to utilize it, or so I thought, and I really didn't understand that type of amp, because even though I wasn't a newbie with playing ability, my gear knowledge wasn't so great at the time. Otherwise, I would have held on to it.

Speaking of an Acoustic 360/361 rig, if you remember a long time ago, we were talking about what amps Paul McCartney used after The Beatles, I found out he used an Acoustic rig, at least during the time when he was in Wings. In one of the videos I posted in the "What Are You Watching" thread, there's a video with Wings for some CBS special in 1973, and you can clearly see that amp in it. I also posted a 1975 concert with them, but I don't think you can make out the amps in that one.

Now I'm trying to find out what he used in the 80's, before he started using Mesa Boogie, which I think he did in the early 90's. I'm assuming he probably used Acoustic for most of the 70's, or at least early to mid 70's.

That was a fine amp for live stage sounds.
I went back with a Hartke Combo today. An HD75 Combo. It actually suits me better overall, than the HA2500 / 112b did. Image

You decided you needed something smaller and more portable?

Oh, getting back to the Paul McCartney 80's amp inquiry, I found this UK talk show he was on in 1987 and he played live on it, and he had some sort of Fender stack in the back, from what I could tell, since there was fog around it. The cab was black and pretty good size, and the head had two channels with those black skirt knobs on it. Maybe it was some type of Bassman, from the shape of it. I did see the Fender badges on both components. There was another TV show that also looked like he was using a Fender (the amps were sort of sunken down the back of the stage setup, although it could have been a Music Man amp. I couldn't really tell. Even if it were a Music Man amp, those were designed by Leo Fender, anyway.

What ever Sir Paul uses, it sounds wonderful.

Yeah, smaller, and more portable. But the sound has more punch to it than the HA2500 / 112b did. I pleasantly surprised it's working out so much better.

That's interesting that it has more punch to it, considering it's a smaller amp, at least as power is concerned.

The funny thing is it seems there isn't a hell of a lot of info (at least what I could find) with his gear during the 80's. It's usually either current (or within the past 20 years or so,) or obviously with The Beatles, which probably started up the whole guitar business in the first place. How many people wanted to be musicians after seeing them live, especially seeing them on the "Ed Sullivan Show." In fact, there's a huge book on their gear out there.

The Ed Sullivan Show really did jump start everything. That was what all the kids were talking about watching that Sunday night. Most of the time, his show was watched by the kids, because the head of the house wanted to watch it on the one TV in the house. That was really something. A year or two it would have been called a happening.

Dimensions:
112b / 17" x 19.75" x 15.25"
HD75 / 19.9” x 18.6” x 13.9”

The two cabs are pretty close in size. The combo is almost the same in height as the 112b, with the HA2500 head on top. I'm thinking the EQ must have a greater dB on the HD75.

That was a huge event, at least for the US. They were already making head waves in the UK and the rest of Europe before that, I think. That was probably when it really blew up, though.

It does seem pretty similar. By the way, they've had those cabs for dirt cheap over at AMS, because of scratch and dent and open box deals. The problem for me would be the 4 ohms and 300 watts thing, unless of course, I had the Fender Rumble 800, which unfortunately I don't, because of the 2 ohm switch, and you could run that cab with another one without issue.

They do have a different EQ setup . Is the EQ on this amp different than the HD150 you had? Of course, it's also going into a smaller speaker and box.
