In the area, in and around Broward, and Palm Beach Counties, one mall that was built in 1969, The Pompano Fashion Square. It was one of the, or if not the largest A/C'd malls around. It had the major department stores in it, and a lot of other popular store. It killed off the smaller A/C'd malls, that killed of the non A/D'd malls. about 15 years ago, or so, it was broken down into small sections, keeping the Sears, Pennys, and Macy stores, with only a hand full of popular smaller stores. I thought it was sad to see that. Of course, I didn't like it when Pompano Fashion Square closed down then Lauderhill Mall down.

Yeah, a lot can change, even in a span of 10 years. Businesses come and go, sometimes to where there's not much left around. I suppose it all depends on the economy, and how they can handle the overhead. I remember St. Pete had a lot of shopping centers and things like that which were probably built in the 40's and 50's, then like you said, malls in the 60's and 70's came along, and changed all of that, then those started going probably by even the 90's in some instances. I remember that recession we had in 2007 or so really knocked everything on it's arse, too. A lot of those stores that were big back then are pretty much gone now, or barely around still. Remember Montgomery Wards? Hell, it's really strange not to even have a Radio Shack around anymore. There used to be two of them around, and that those were a musician's stop, besides a music store. I guess they screwed themselves when they decided to concentrate on cell phones, I don't know.

There was Jeffersons, Zayres, Woolco, Grandway, J. Byrons, Treasury, Britts, and more that I can't recall at the moment. What a shame.

I remember some of those stores. We used to go into Zayre's all of the time, especially.

There were a few more, but I can't recall them. Richards, was a fairly good size mall department store also. Similar to a Pennys, etc.

Yeah, they've came and went over the years. I remember some grocery stores that were around like that, as well. There used to be a Grand Union, then a Pantry Pride, when I first moved down there, and the last time I was down there, Kash and Karry was gone, which was one of the major stores, like Publix and Winn Dixie. They have Kash and Karry store in your area?

No Kash and Larry from what I remember in here. A&P before they became Pantry Pride, Piggly Wiggly, Grand Way was a spin off from Grand Union, like Woolco, was a spin off Wollworth's 5 & 10 stores. Kwik Check was a spin off of Winn Dixie. And I think Food Fair was spin off of A&P. I'm not getting into all the drug stores I remember that were around. The 5 & 10 type stores too. A lot of those were around at one time too.

Yeah, I remember A&P being there, now that you mention it, but very briefly from when I moved there. They had A&P in Virginia, where I was born, and lived until I was 6, and there was one in Greenwich, Connecticut, at least a few years back. I'm not sure if it's still there, since it's been probably 6 or 7 years since I've been down that way. Man, time flies, doesn't it?

A&P was an extremely old store chain. A&P was originally the real old, The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company.

You know, I never knew what the A&P in A&P even stood for. I never thought to even look it up. I just remember going there when I was a kid, and when I was in Greenwich the last time, or time before that.

I remember every A&P I ever went into, through out my life, was the smell of fresh coffee beans. Those at one time was the premier retail store, of any retail stores in the USA. Bigger than Sears & Roebucks. I think the last A&P closed in 2015.

Yeah, it did. December 1st, 2015, which was also my 44th birthday. I just found that out by looking up the Wikipedia article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great ... ea_Company

They were 156 years in business, and yeah, really huge at one time, from what I read there. I guess it's like anything else that comes and goes.

Wow! You had to look up your Birthday online? Image 156 Years was a long time to be in business. And yes, they were the top retail dog for some time. Too bad they're not around any more. I've been saying that about a lot of companies that were around.

Not to break the spell, but if I had a cab that would handle the Rumble 800HD, I'd use another one without thinking twice about it.

I guess when times change, and you don't or can't adapt, then that can happen. That, and people get greedy and make the wrong decisions on running a business and/or company.
