That's true. It's funny how such technology which is pretty much 100 years old, from what I've gathered, is more expensive than technology that's maybe 30 years old (I'm not exactly sure how far back Class D goes, but I think maybe a little further back than when they were making bass amps with it, but I could be wrong) and probably more complex in manufacture. Then again, that's all computerized stuff going into it, and tube stuff is typically made by hand, so maybe that's why.

I've somewhat lost track of the timeline in the amps manufacturing. The tube tones from the SS heads work well. The Hartke HA Series does a good job at that.

Yeah, they seem to be that way. At least, those preamp tubes aren't that expensive, if you have to replace them. I mean, in comparison to the bigger power amp ones, at least.

No matching, no cracking of the tubes glass casing, no biasing, and any thing else I may have forgotten preamp tubes don't require if they need to be changed out.

That's true, there is that whole process involved. I did have to help replace a preamp tube once, for a Summit Audio mic preamp that my girlfriend has, and that was pretty simple process, from what I remember. You know, I think that's about the only time I've ever even done that. I haven't really had much in the way of anything having tubes in them, preamp or not. The Orange was one, and the Ampeg SVT-3 Pro, which I had in the 90's, was the other, and my girlfriend has an all tube 1982 Fender Super Champ that's in mint condition, that was bought new by her stepdad, and barely been used over the years. I think the last time it's even been turned on was probably 2015. I guess if there's a situation that I'd play guitar, then I'll use it. It's a great amp, that's for sure.

Depending on the settings, the preamp tube, or tubes in a SS head, may not be stressed anywhere near the stress on power tubes of a Tube Head. The changing out of the pre amp tubes, usually are in general, easier than power tubes. Less dangerous also.

Yeah, you do have to be careful when dealing with those amps.

Caution needs to be used when a power tube is extracted, so a pin isn't sheared off in the board.

Yeah, then you'd be really up the creek without a paddle. I take it that wouldn't be something easily fixed, either. Have you ever had that happen to you?

No, but I've seen it happen to others. Sometimes the pin isn't flush when it breaks off, so it can be pulled out with needle nose pliers. Not too often though.

I suppose the thing is to just be extra careful if you have to deal with that sort of thing.

They have to have slight wiggles while being pulled straight up off the tube cup. SLOWLY!!!

I can see why they'd be a pain in the arse to deal with.

Like we talked about before about how blasted hot the power tubes get with very little use.

That's true, and that wouldn't help to having to be careful in removing them, if you had to.
