That's true, and it used to be only certain stores or areas could do that within certain distances, or something like that. Like you couldn't have two different stores sell Fender that were close by each other, I think.

Something screwy like that.

The dude that worked at Bringe Music in St. Pete explained that to me, but that's been 30 years, so my memory of the exact details is a bit foggy. I don't know how all of that factors in these days, with Guitar Center being everywhere, and the internet.

I didn't know for a while which was the crazier of the two, between Gibson, and Fender for the games they played with that stuff.

Then you had all of the other brands thrown into the mix, as well.

It got to be almost not worth it for some of the dealers to not sell either Gibson, or Fender, the way they attempted to manipulate the music sales.

Yeah, I imagine there's a lot of corporate politics involved there.

And then some. Some of the better dealers were able to get in some of the Gibsons, and Fenders.

I did notice the bigger stores like Thoroughbred Music (at the time before it became a Sam Ash,) and things like that had a lot of that, and Ampeg and Marshall amps. Although, there was a smaller store which I got my Ampeg SVT 3 Pro from, so Ampeg weren't as exclusive to the bigger places. Bringe carried Fender, though.

I almost don't think it was amp based companies, as it was guitar, bass items.

It's hard to say. I do remember Bringe not carrying Gibson instruments, but they did have that Gibson bass stack that was out in the late 80's, early 90's. It was some sort of 440 watt head, and I think a 15" and 4 x 10" cabs. We did have a discussion about it a few years ago.

Gibson did have a couple of amps on the market.

Oh yeah, going way back. I suppose once in a blue moon they might still put something out like that, but not usually bass related. Bass is kind of the red headed step child of that company, it seems.

They were very cautious about bass amps.

I guess so. They did have a few, but that one they had in the late 80's was really cool. I got to play through it, and it sounded really good, from what I remember. 440 watts wasn't a slouch, either, at least back then. We didn't have those 1000 watt heads that you can put in your back pocket, and check your email on. :P

Back then, they were still pretty good size.
