I was kinda leaning towards an SWR and a Roland Jazz Chorus. I also have a completely dismantled GK 800RB that I was going to fix and put back together that I was thinking about running a Hard Truckers 2x15 off the 800 watt low end amp and a Hard Truckers 2x12 Guitar/Keyboard cab on the 100 watt high end amp.

Unfortunately I really don't have the space for any of that or the time to fix up the amp.

Roland Jazz Chorus amps aren't actually half bad for bass to play through in the first place. I wouldn't mind one of those, myself. What happened to the Gallien Kruger head? I've actually used one of those a few times over the years, but I never owned one. The first time was through this Sonic 2 x 18" and 2 x 10" cab that this guy that worked at a music shop, I used to frequent, had in his place, when I was in a band with him. That thing was a beast. Talk about some serious low end. One time we cranked it all of the way up and you could actually feel the bass hit you in the chest. I will say, in a way I'm kind of glad I wasn't around long enough to gig with it, because that would have been a $@!&* to haul around. :P

Funny Story I bought it off a homeless dude for $40 without at least plugging it in plugged it in at home, nothing, opened it up and it was in pieces. I was going to use it as a project to learn electronics now it's in pieces my closet as I really don't have the space available to work on it.

Funny story about the Roland Jazz Chorus. Joni Mitchell Got one of the prototypes when Jaco was in her band. They delivered it back stage and he commandeered it. She tried to get another one since he wasn't giving it up and they couldn't get her another one. I don't remember how she got it back.

That would probably be worth it to get it fixed, if you ever could. Sometimes you can find parts, if you need them, as well. Speaking of Jaco, and Gallien Kruger, the last time I played through an RB-800 was this club in NYC back in 2005, and they had that head, and two of the original Hartke 4 x 10" aluminum cabs, which were Guild Hartke cabs. I know those were some of the Hartke cabs that Jaco used, and it could even possible he actually even played through those very ones. I don't know how many of those Guild Hartke cabs were made, but I don't think it was too many, and that would be interesting to know what their history was. I remember the whole rig being punchy as hell, though. Great sounding set up.

Good to see you got that back. Now you can hear yourself when your playing. 8)

Yes, a nice 12" tone. The settings are fine on it too.

It plays well with the hollow body, then, I take it?

Fantastic Paul. The settings can do that "bonk" hollow body sound, or more of the deeper pounding sound. It's a shame the Markbass amps are so pricy. They really are a great design that works. I have mine back again. Image

I suppose their heads aren't too expensively prices, compared to all of the other amps around, but I've noticed the combos and the cabs are a bit up there. There's a couple of brands like that, with their heads not too expensive, but the cabs are up there. I guess electronics are cheaper to manufacture than cabs, even though it's just wood (or MDF) and speakers, more or less.

I got my half stack off Reverb for about $1,600 used. I saw the 2x10 combo version new for about $1000. I spent the extra money since I've got space limitations.

I'm thinking about getting the Markbass gig bag that carries 2 basses and has a pocket that fits the head, and a laptop pocket.

Markbass has some different types of gear available. I'm just glad I don't need anymore than the 121P.

Pretty good deal for that, then. That bag would be rather convenient, I'd think. That reminds me, I still need to get a bag for my Ampeg PF-800 head, for when I start gigging. They offer them for that head, but they want $50 for the thing, and it's open on the corners, so those corner ring pieces (or whatever you call them) stick out of it. I'm just going to find a computer or gym bag that will fit the head in it. I did spot something on Walmart.com for something like $15. As long as it's sturdy enough to carry it, it should be fine. It weighs 11.8 pounds, according to the specs.

The one part on a smaller head to be careful about when looking for a suitable carry bag, will be the corners of the head. Just so the corners don't puncture where they press up against the material.

Yeah, I just have so match up the dimensions with the amp and the bag.
