Especially if your practice area is small like mine is. The sounds will be better if it's in a larger area. Setting the settings work out better, and easier. I used to love to go into big arenas, or halls to do set ups.

I can't even remember the biggest place I've ever played. Usually your typical small to large clubs, and have done something like a VFW Hall or Elk's Lodge. That type of building. I've played outside in someone's backyard a few times many years ago. Technically, the only walls there were maybe the wooden fencing, and peoples houses. Oh yeah, I played in someone's house, as well. That was one of my first gigs I ever did, when I was 19 years old. I didn't have the opportunity, nor I felt I was good enough to play out before that, I think. I felt confident enough after two years of practicing, I think. I remember practicing in some of the strangest places, because of certain people or bands I knew. The election HQ for the Democrats in St. Pete, because the mother of the guitarist worked there, who was some hippy lady that actually went to Woodstock, and another place was a meat market in St. Pete, that a friend of mine's parents owned and ran when I first met him. It was in the back where the band saws and other butchering equipment was, with a floor with a drain in the center of it. We had to be careful when it was wet, though. :P

Not counting the sound check I did at MSG, the largest places I every really played in a band, was Ft. Lauderdale War Memorial Auditorium, and the Ft. Lauderdale Armory. Even though it was just a sound check, it was a total rush standing on the MSG stage by myself playing the two Mountain songs.

Yep! A lot for sure. I just stood there playing the bass parts, and let the rest of the song in my head guide me through the songs. Ron knew what I was doing. He always said, I had a JukeBox for a brain. He knew I always had music running through my head. I still do. Image

Have you ever did your own original songs in any sort of group or project, or you just like to play along with the classics?

We dabbled in writing some, but never had a handle on it.

I guess I've always got into the songwriting aspect of it, because it was easier for me to do that, than try to figure out someone else's stuff, and try to do it justice. I have done covers though, from time to time, especially when you didn't have enough songs of your own to play live, or just for fun.

At times back then, the quality wasn't always as important as the live playing. Some of the younger, middle, and older aged audiences had never heard some good live rock being performed. We really weren't to bad. and at least they were appreciative, for the most part.

Live music, or rock music like that was also just starting out, so that was a brand new concept. You were right in the middle of it all, too. I'd say that's pretty cool you had that chance. 8)

I am very grateful to the Lord, for giving me my life in that time of history. It was as you say a new concept, and I reveled in it. Like I've always said, it was my time , and I could feel it, I knew it. Oh well,..... Image

I imagine it was, besides the whole Vietnam thing, which sucked. The thing about that which I wonder, if that war really had a bearing on how much stuff that happened in the 60's. Obviously, a lot of the counter culture was a reaction to it, I'm sure.

Parts of the economy did well in conjunction with the war. Bell Helicopter, Colt Firearms, Winchester, Remington, etc. Unfortunately, the old saying, "War is good business". One down of it, inflation of the dollar. Prices of goods go up. It becomes somewhat of a false economy.

Yeah, war makes a lot of people money, except for the people who have to fight in it, unless they're mercenaries, I suppose. I doubt Uncle Sam was filling up your wallet, were they?

No, but when I got out, I was receiving mail from Rhodesia to in their words, "Be a man among men". Come, and join the Rhodesian Guard, or some crap like that. Mercenaries.
