So, obviously the Hartke won out on the sound test. That was a good idea to test it out that way, too.

Very true. I usually don't get the opportunity to sound test side by side like that one. It's usually going by my perceived sound of the one amp that's not there. I was very impressed by the HD115, over the 115 Neo. They were both through the 100T. Close enough for me to the SB.

How would you describe the differences, if you could?

The HD115 sounded to me to have a more deep, clear, crisp low tone with no flutter. The 115 Neo sounded ok, but a bit muddy. Now both of these were floor models, so who knows what the condition of either one of the speakers were in. The HD115 I acquired, was a new one. I don't think it was on the floor too long. I should say, in all fairness, all four of the cabs were new. The Hartke I chose was in pristine shape.

I imagine that aluminum speaker contributes to that greatly. I wonder what the differences are between the hybrid speaker you have, and the all aluminum ones of the original? They don't make those in 15" size any longer, or at least available in the US. The power rating on those weren't as high, anyway. I think they were 200 or 300 watts. I do remember the 4 x 10" cab being really punchy, but I was also running a Gallien Kruger 800RB with it, and a Precision Bass Lyte with active pickups.

I like the aluminum / paper mix on the HD series cabs. The newer design with less aluminum, I think has a lower, less treble tone. That's the tone I rally couldn't achieve in the Hartke cabs in the past. I also wasn't a fan of the sounds generated from earlier Hartke head with Hartke cabs. Fender heads just seem to play well with about anything.

It's probably the ideal blend of those materials, then. I have to say, it does give me an idea for a future rig expansion. They have those all aluminum 2 x 10" Hartke cabs for around $179 at AMS, and I'm wondering how that might pair with the Fender cab, so I can get some of that tone? Plus, it would bring my amp to it's 4 ohm capability, not that I don't seem to need it. I don't know, ideally it would be better if I could get either the cab you have or one of their 4 x 10" versions, but that's even more highly unlikely, unless I get some money coming my way, since they both are way more expensive than anything I could sell for them right now. If not, I'm still pretty good with what I have.

I have to agree with what you said with the Fender amps, or heads, if you will. They do have a sound that you can work with, that's for sure.

Fender does turn out bass gear that works.

I just now realized over the years, even with all the Gibson EB0's I've had, and other brands, the Fender basses out number them all.

Yeah, I know you've had quite a few Jazz Basses.

And a good number of Precisions in there as well, before I woke up to staying with the Jazzes.

You originally preferred Precision Basses, didn't you?

I tried like hell to make them play for me, but that didn't pan out. That's when the Jazz, and myself fell into place.

I imagine the size and feel of the necks between the two had a lot to do with that. Jazz necks do seem to feel smaller, and I guess technically they aren't as wide at the nut. What's strange to me is I often find myself GASsing over Precision basses more often than Jazz ones, even though the neck is easier on the Jazz. I don't even know why. It's always been the case, especially with one with a maple board. I don't know, maybe it's just the sound of the pickup, or the overall shape of the whole thing.
