Bob the Bear Hite was incredible.

Yeah, he certainly had a distinctive voice.

Bob had a stage presence as well. He knew how to rev up an audience. Canned Heat didn't do fancy tech sounding songs. They the every day man's songs played the Canned Heat way, loud, and full of heart. It wasn't unusual for a lot of the audience to be singing along, and knowing the lyrics word for word at a Canned Heat concert.

Unfortunately, I've never listened to their back catalog, other than their known songs, like "On The Road Again," which is probably my favorite that I've heard. I love that drone to it. I should go ahead and start checking out their stuff, which I can probably do with Spotify, if it's available there. That's how I was able to listen to Jefferson Airplane's back catalog, and Hot Tuna, although I did have "Surrealistic Pillow" on vinyl, when I had all of those records that my brother gave me.

You can find a bunch of stuff, especially live things on YouTube, sometimes. I've listened to a lot of Led Zeppelin bootlegs like that, plus some actual film. Stuff that they never officially released for some reason, like the 1975 Earl's Court concert. If you ever feel like watching that on your computer, I can send you the link. Hopefully, it's still there, and didn't get yanked down.

I remember getting bootleg albums from the guys who recorded them. That was big stuff back then. I remember one of the better sounding bootleg album I had was, Jethro Tull.

There's this website called archive.org, which has a bunch of Led Zeppelin bootlegs, and probably a bunch of other stuff. You can even download them.

I wonder how many bootleg albums were made back then?

I don't know, but from what I've read, I think Led Zeppelin were the most bootlegged out of those bands. There is a boatload of recordings, that's for sure. I imagine The Grateful Dead are another one, but they actually encouraged people to tape them at their shows. You ever get into them at all?

They weren't something that I've really listened to, other than hearing stuff on the radio, or maybe some sort of video here or there. I guess I'm ambivalent about them. They had one hell of a PA system, though. That thing was ridiculously massive, with speakers just towering up about the stage.

Not to get back onto the title postings, but I'm using the Hartke HyDrive HD115 cab. Image Image

Did you sell the Ampeg cab to get that, or you did you do a trade in deal?

Oh yeah, speaking of Canned Heat, I've been listening to their albums chronologically, with right now I'm on "Living The Blues." This is some good, jamming stuff. 8) I was reading their Wikipedia page, and they said Larry Taylor left the band after the "Future Blues" album, but he came back in the late 70's and on an album in 1987, from what I can figure out. Should I just stick with the stuff he's on, or go for the whole thing? They have a few live albums from like 1973, and things like that. It seems like a lot of things are just compilation albums, or greatest hits kind of deals. I wanted to hear everything though, at least as intended original album releases.

You may want to pursue some of the time that Mark Andes was with Canned Heat as well.

On the SVT-212AV, I just did a return on it. Then applied it to the HD115. There was only a $50. difference, plus tax to payout for the HD115.

I read about him playing with them when they first started out. There's actually any recording of that? He wasn't on their first album, it was Larry Taylor.

That's not a bad deal. What made you decide to try the Hartke out over any other 15" cab? What that's what was available?

They had two of each, the Bassman 115 Neo's, and the Hartke HyDrive HD115's. I was able to spend a bit playing through both. I used a 100T head through them. It was as close to a Super Bassman in the store I could get. A pretty even trial.
