Hey, we're back to both having Fender/Ampeg mixed amplification. :P

Image I know, I thought about that sometime yesterday. Of all the 2X12 cabs on the market today, I like the SVT-212AV the best of any. Fender isn't doing it for me, and the Bassman 2X12 cab was one of the better cabs at one time.

Well, unless they actually decide to come out with another one, then that's probably your best option.

From the way it looks now, the SVT-212AV is fine with me. With a tube head, it really doesn't mater what the impedance of a cab is. The Super tube head is 300 watts RMS.

Yeah, you got some power there, if you need it.

I don't when or ever I'd need it, but yeah, it's there. The Super is $350. more than the 100T. I justified it to myself as being fairly close in price. It just seemed like once the price tag went past $1,450., $1,800. True, I don't have the cash to use easily, but that's where the SG Std., and the Ampeg V-4B came into play. Not everybody's way of doing a deal, but it worked for me.

Have you ever even cranked that amp very loudly, just to see what's what?

When you do the extreme volume in a smaller room, in most cases the sound fills the volume capacity of the area of the room. It's hard to tell how loud it really is. The only thing it will do is hurt your hearing. Or another way to say it is, load is loud.

That's true. The size and the design of the room also factor in that. That's why I was having issues with the 18" speaker cab, when I had it.

It was probably louder than you realized too.

Well, the low end pumping from that thing was killing my girlfriend. It was a bit too much for her, I guess, since she was standing in front of it. :P That's what those 18" speakers do, especially subwoofers.

The do fine in extra loud applications, that's for sure. The Acoustic 360 / 361 was so well suited to power an 18.

I imagine that amp with that speaker would have been a bit much in a tiny room, but put it in it’s proper element, and it would go. Would you say that amp is too obsolete with today’s technology, or do you think it can still hang in there? People still use old amps, and an SVT is about as old, but is still considered the top dog for bass amps. Even a lot of boutique amps are pretty much based off of it. You know, 300 watts tubed, and all of that.

Both of those monsters are still alive, and well, as long as bass players do big arenas, and halls. I saw Canned Heat, and Spirit a week a part, at the same outdoor arena. Both Larry Taylor of Canned Heat, and Mark Andes of Spirit were using Acoustic 360 / 361's. They sounded awesome.
I can see that players today are starting to hear the older big power amp sound. Both Tube, and SS. Look how
influenced Fender on the 300 watts tube head. RIP SUNN!!! Felix knew the best amp.

That's pretty cool, that first of all that they are still alive and kicking, (at least at the time,) and they were still using those. I guess they wanted to capture the sound they had in the 60's to give the songs that authenticity. I think Canned Heat is still around, albeit just Larry Taylor and Adolfo "Fito" de la Parra in the band. Didn't the singer die in the 70's, or something like that?
