They did some backup concert shows. Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper, and a couple others. Their sounds were pretty balanced with both bass, and lead players using the Acoustic amps, and both played Gibson SG, Gibson EBO guitars. They also recorded an album locally in Fort Lauderdale.

I had a thought a day or two ago to see if my old Ampeg V-4B is in the SA store. I think they have two, or three there. If my old one is there, I may ask the store mgr. if i can switch it out with the Bassman 800. I bought it on Jan. 2nd.

It is done! Tomorrow I'm going to SA to do an even swap out, the Bassman 800, for the Ampeg V-4B. I'm going back to all Ampeg. 100 Watts of a tube amp is more than I need. And I already have the money paid out to cover the V-4B, so why not. Image

That's cool. Whatever happened to them? They still around?

You like the sound of the Ampeg better, then? Hey, whatever works better for you. 8)

No, they're not around in the area, as far as I know.

Yeah,.. I do like the sound better. And now was the time to do a change out on it before it went over a week on the transaction. I think I actually did them a favor by getting one of the V-4B Ampeg's out their stock. Between the two heads, the Bassman 800 should move faster for them than the V-4B. At least I think so anyway.

That's true. The timing was pretty good, too. It's usually good to move on something when the opportunity is there. If you wait too long, you might miss out.

If I waited too long, I know I would have had to paid out some cash. This only 10 minutes for today's transaction, and I was carrying the Ampeg to the car, to head back home.

The same thing would have happened to me. That sale at AMS only went on for maybe a week at the most. We had good timing all around, I think. 8)

It seems like you, and I were actually able to take advantage of a good deal for the gear we wanted. I have to ask you, on your move to do the PF800, was that a snap decision, or was a bit thought out for what head to replace your Orange with?

My decision to do the Bassman 800 was more thought out. Getting the V-4B was an after thought when I saw they had what appeared to be my head still in stock. Plus it cost the same as what the Bassman 800 was. I guess some times my snap decisions, while not that sound in thought, work good, or better for me anyway. I don't know.

Well, it was sort of half and half, as far as any planning and snap decisions go. If you recall, I've been talking about a SVT-7 Pro, off and on, for a long time, usually when they had one on sale and discounted to where I could sell the Orange and get it. Of course, that would also mean I could get enough to cover that cost.

I've had trouble in my previous attempts to sell it, and I didn't bother with it until they recently had another SVT-7 Pro on sale that was cheap enough to make me try another attempt. Meanwhile, I was looking at that Ampeg, and also noticed the PF-800 also on sale, and looked into that one. That's when I just decided to abandon the whole idea of the SVT-7 Pro, and decided to drop the price a bit for the Orange, and then I got a call from that guy, which I almost passed on, but then the amp went on further discount, and the rest is history.

The whole point of even considering those instead of something even cheaper, like a Rumble 500, or the Ampeg version, was I didn't want to give up too much of what I already had in the Orange (the 1000 watts, to be honest,) even though I technically didn't need it. Probably stubbornness on my part, but that was what I wanted, or don't even bother.

Basically, I wanted something like the Orange, but better tonal options, yet I can still afford it from selling the Orange. I suppose I could have gotten that Peavey 1000 watt head that is actually only $50 more than a Rumble 500, but even though they are a good workhorse amp, not always the best sounding option, or they weren't back in the day, at least to me. I think I found the ideal amp that should meet all specifications.

I'd say you made a damn good decision to go with the PF800. I'm not just saying this because we both are running Ampeg heads now, but Ampeg does make good heads.

I had the Bassman 800 set, I thought. As we know, that changed.

I was also open to other brands, like Phil Jones Bass, whom have an 800 watt head that looks very interesting, but they go for $799, which was out of my range with what I could realistically sell the Orange for. I suppose I could, since I've seen other Orange heads around that amount, but I don't know if the demand would even be enough to try that, since someone could just get one of those. Come to think of it, an Ampeg SVT-7 Pro costs that much, as well. I'm actually glad I never paid full new price for that Orange, not that I could afford it, and with other cheaper options available, because I would have taken a loss on it trying to get rid of it. That's the thing you got to think about with getting gear, I think.

The cab isn't a Fender, but the head is.
