Hey all -
Not sure if Fender will ban me for asking this question, but:
With your Fender Jazz bass, what amp do you use?
If not Fender, which one and why?

I've got a Peavey keyboard amp that I use for my Fender bass...but am looking to buy a bass-specific amp.
My personal bass hero, JacoPastorius, used a 370 acoustic amp.

Also - I have a Fender Vibrolux Reverb (1973 vintage) for my Tele and Strat and the tube sound is fantastic.
Is there much difference in bass amps when using either tube or solid state?

Thanks!

Hey I'v got the Roland cube 30 watt for home and I can say it's a fantastic amp but I did a mistake because if you realy want to have a great deep sound you need power (watt) more power better tone, power is almost the main thing in a great bass amp

Ampeg BA115. Always wanted an Ampeg, this one was only about $380, looked like just what I needed.
It's 100 watts, 15" speaker, 5-position "style switch" (cuts and boosts various freqs, basically a quick way of adjusting the tone for different styles, as the name suggests), The usual tone control setup,CD input, headphone jack,XLR line out, built in tilt-back feature (don't lean on it, LOL), solid state electronics. Haven't had it up loud yet, but so far, I'm really digging the sound of my '09 Am std Jazz thru it. Very versatile sounding with the style switch. Good for home practice, and it seems like it would be a good gigging amp.

I decided to try out one of the new GK combo's. I got the GK MB210, 350 watts with 2x10. I'm waiting for the 2x10 extension cabinet, that will jack it up to 500 watts. So far I'm liking it. Sounds good but it's nice and light too.

I'm in a gigging band. We play in pubs of varying sizes.

All I take to gigs is my Geddy Lee bass, spare strings etc, a guitar stand and - vitally - my Tech21 SansAmp Programmable Bass Driver DI.

If the other bands playing let me use their amp, then i use that for on-stage monitor purposes. Route the bass via the SansAmp straight into the effect return input of the amp (thereby turning the amp into purely a power amp, bypassing all the EQ and tone altering characteristics of the thing). The amps are always XLR'd into the PA to get the bass volume "out" to the crowd.

If there is no onstage bass amp I XLR the SansAmp straight into the PA and ask the sound engineer to boost the bass signal through the PA monitors so myself and the drummer can hear something.

The point is, with the SansAmp I get a consistent, repeatable sound (mild overdrive, analog warmth etc) at whatever venue I play. I don't have to lug an amp around London and can get to and from venues by train (meaning I can have a pint or two during the night!)

I know amps look lovely with their knobs and flashing EQs etc but I came to the conclusion about 12 months ago you JUST DON'T NEED ONE!

Ah!
That's a key factor - consistency!
So, the SansAmp might be a good tool to add, as I have a sound in mind that I want to keep.

Gallien-Krueger 700RB-II with a GK Neo 212 cabinet connected with a speakon cable. This allows for bi-amp operation; the main amp runs the two 12s and a separate amp drives the horn. I can dial in growl for the 12s and keep the horn sound clean and crisp. The range of sounds I can get from the active EQ and the pre-amp settings is great.

This set-up sounds great at low levels and can be cranked up high enough to rattle the walls in a decent sized club.

For smaller gigs i use my Ampeg BA210SP. For bigger shows (like outside) I drag out my GK back line 600 head, GK BLX 115 & 410 cabs.

Laney RB9 and Laney 4x10 and 1x15

..... I used to have a BXR300 combo (Fender) and some other smaller Fender combo in the past. I also used to have a bassman 2 x 12 rig in the 70's (Tube)

Why because my local music store sells Laney They'd love to sell Fender but of course you have to be in a city of hundreds of thousands before you can be a dealer of Fender. I'm not paying $150 in Ferries and gas and 10 hours travel time to buy Fender every time I need any gear as much as I like the Fender gear.

I have a Fender guitar amp for my guitar playin band and a Telecaster (Bought online and used respectively

I have a 2010 American Deluxe Jazz V so I'm happy with the amount of Fender I have.

I do not have headstock envy when it comes to amps though.[/img]Image
