i have a Geddy Lee model i am trying to get a fatter sound out of... closer to my old P... i find when i play up close to the neck (i never use a pick) i get a fatter, rounder sound than when i anchor my thumb on the neck pickup.... i am debating installing a thumrest up there just like the vintage 70's models had... just like the 50th Anni model has.....

any opinions on whether this will seriously detract from the looks on this sig model? or is it really more about sound than looks?

IMO, a well placed black thumb rest would not look out of place at all on a GL Jazz. Plus, if you ever want to remove the thumbrest, a new pick guard will cover the holes.

It should all be about the sound. I do not believe you should be overly concerned about the "look" and as the previous post mentioned it could always be removed and covered up at a later date if you wish.
