There's been a whole lot of conjecture on those holes, I believe they are made as an identifying mark to differentiate between bodies meant for eiither MIM or MIA instruments which are both made in the same California plant. I'm not sure if that's true ot not, but that's what I heard.

Correct. It is a datum hole that's used to assist in the positioning of the body blank into a CNC milling machine that's used to create the shape.
